I'm not implying that the U.S. is the best country. It's just the one that I live in. What, in your opinion, are the best alternative countries to the U.S. if one was to move from the U.S.?

This might be because you are retired, you just want to leave permanently or you just want to live in another country for a few years. Of course an important factor is whether you need to find a local job or whether you can work from anywhere or whether you are retired.

I'll mention a few that come to my mind... Costa Rica, Portugal, Uruguay, Australia, New Zealand with honorable mentions to Argentina and Mexico. For many moving to Costa Rica or Australia would require the least adjustments I think.

I've been to Argentina, Mexico and Costa Rica but not to the others mentioned.

    What would be your suggestions?

Have been there. Was warned (by him) that my driver had a gun. Was warned off the wetback express by the police night patrol at El Paso.

But there were other states that were equally bizarre and unwelcoming (in my then possibly paranoid experience)

Have been misbelieved on that score

Edit:to the OP the States seems a really good place to live if you give sfa about your neighbours ,but is hardly alone in that circumstance.

    This.

Cold weather, but a few friends of mine moved to Calgary, AB and they love it. Friendly, good jobs and an overall great place to live, they’ve said.

user pays private health care countrys with no social services ?
with openly corrupt political systems where private companys can openly bribe politicians to make legal policy ?

some of the south american countrys are very similar
    china is also similar

    and india

but if you bribe the wrong person in china, you may end up in prison or facing a firing squad.
but you wont have to live in the middle of some of the worlds worst violent crime while your doing it.

you set the bar pretty high !

    high rate of violent crime
    no social services
xenophobic territorial land use (very little public land to walk freely in without being attacked or threatened)

    massive rate of disease

    an alternative to that ....

    possibly Brazil would be closest
    or Mexico
both share equal levels of no social services and massively high covid death rates and lack of non corrupt political and local government systems
    just like the usa

    library note
    Brazilian Versus USA people
    Brazilians are a lot nicer
    Brazilians
19 out of 20 will be really nice
    USA
6 (or 5)out of 10 will be nice

    al-la-ka-Zam !

specialist or admin/generalist(non specified industry business process function[tea lady, cleaner, office assistant office manager etc]) ?

world will want plastic for a few more generations
its one thing being anti fossil fuel but modern society is a very very very long way off being plastic free

    i like your new picture

    additionally
considering all those people who move will need private medical insurance
and for optional medical will probably go on medical tourism holidays to Asia

    post edit added
    note
i think there is a lot of restructuring going on where employees are being asked to re apply for their jobs
but specialist roles in energy & science fields stay relatively hot ticket items(employees)

    lol

Two of them are in operations and another is Director of Supply Chain. They love it there!

We need to get away from plastic.

    So many reasons why.

Thank you. I’ve been hard to please lately. I find one art piece I like, and then another comes along that I like better. ^_^

I would like to move to India, like for a year...maybe some day.

    Oh yes.

I recall when I was there some 40/50 years ago that I reflected that I too would be ignorant of countries outside my own if I lived there.(there is that joke about the Americans invading countries to learn geography)

Why bother going anywhere else with such a wonderful country?

Twenty-odd years ago, I spent six months or so in South Asia--mostly India and Nepal. IIRC, I spent less than 7 hundred dollars (plus plane ticket).

Russia. I love their music and traditions. Visiting that country for one month won't be enough. A year over there should be a great experience.

The United States is by far not the best country to live in and so is Israel.

Even Canada has a better standard of living and quality of life and less crime and corruption than the United States does and I think that's because the United States has tons of crime and also has corruption in government and also some bad quality populations (by bad quality populations I mean bullies and people who behave badly and do bad things to others).

So Canada and Switzerland are better than the United States in almost every way when it comes to living a good life.

In live in Israel but I'm starting to hate Israel and consider maybe moving to better places like Switzerland, Finland, Denmark, Germany, Norway or maybe even Australia.
