Agreed. Two camps simply keep firing rounds at each other from their fixed trench positions. Gets to be monotonous. June is just about here. Do we have a date for the Pentagon 'disclosure event'? As earlier posted, I don't have high hopes for anything breathtakingly new. But let's see how it pans out.

If that were true there'd be no such thing as facts or factual accounts, like the Big Bang, evolution, or climate change. The proper way to approach an account is to be agnostic, neither a skeptic nor a believer until you go over the evidence. If the account is fact-based, at a certain point you should stop being a skeptic and ideally be convinced based on the evidence.

I wouldn't trust anyone to go looking on my behalf. I would only search and decide for myself.

    As skeptics are

This turned up in today's Sunday Territorian Darwin newspaper

This article is from the NT News issue of Sunday, 30 May

    Spotlight on UFO landing

A FORMER science teacher at Westall High School in southeast Melbourne was one of hundreds of witnesses to a so-called UFO landing on school grounds in 1966.

Breaking a 55-year silence, Andrew Greenwood has revealed what he saw that day, and how he was later threatened by Australian military officials and even contacted by the US President at the time, Lyndon B. Johnson, who was looking into other UFO sightings.

In a 7NEWS Spotlight documentary to air Sunday night on Channel 7, Mr Greenwood says: “I was told that I should not say anything about it.”

“They told me that I was wrong, that I hadn’t seen anything , and when I tried to explain to them that, well, they weren’t there, I was, and I knew what I saw, the first suggestion was that you’d be illadvised to go on saying that, because clearly you were drunk on duty, and that would have to be reported to the Education Department, and of course you’ll lose your job,” he said.

The threats were allegedly made by a senior Australian Air Force officer in uniform and another in a civilian suit, who came to Mr Greenwood’s home after he spoke to a local paper, and forced him into his 55-year silence.

Mr Greenwood was teaching his year 9 science class when a girl ran into the classroom shouting that there were “flying saucers” hovering over the football field.

The teacher and his students rushed outside, where they joined around 500 students , teachers and locals.

What he saw was an unidentified aerial craft “the shape that you would see if you had a saucer, slightly tipped on its side, so that you saw the middle section as thicker than the ends” .

He said the craft was hovering 50 metres above the crowd, about 100 to 200 metres away and clearly visible.

Many of the Westall witnesses attested to seeing several metallic “discs” and “flying saucers” over the football field and nearby bush.

Walkley Award-winning investigative journalist Ross Coulthart led the 7NEWS Spotlight team, gathering compelling evidence on UFOs from leading researchers , scientists and witnesses.

SPOTLIGHT: THE PHENOMENON PREMIERES 7PM THIS SUNDAY ON CHANNEL 7 AND 7PLUS

All I know is June sometime. Yeah, there's not going to be anything particularly earth-shattering. But at least they are acknowledging the phenomenon. I hope.

Skeptic challenge: "Google Westall UFO 1966 for more details pick your choice of compelling evidence"
    Already done: http://www.sciforums.com/posts/3660139/
Predictable skeptic response: "They were all mass hysteria victims. Those that were not outright liars/publicity seekers. Case closed."
    I don't think so.

Don't think they ever not acknowledge UFOs

I think such a mind set in the general public - Agency refuses to acknowledge UFO - is more a media beat up mixed with whatever Agency NOT KNOWING WHAT THEY ARE BUT TO EMBARRASSED TO ADMIT WE DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE

It's an embarrassment to the military when they admit they can't identify a particular invader of their airspace. Hence there is a strong motive to keep it hidden and not even acknowledge it, not because they know, but because they don't know and don't want to appear incompetent.

    And yet, you contradict yourself:

You haven't seen any UFOs yourself any more than you've seen God. So your search turns up nothing. By your own logic, you should be an extreme skeptic of both.

I've searched thru mountains of evidence and eyewitness accounts for myself and concluded UFOs are a real phenomenon. I haven't found the same for God, but I'm certainly open to any new evidence or sightings that might come up.

    In direct contradiction to this:
"I wouldn't trust anyone to go looking on my behalf. I would only search and decide for myself."

Every bit of evidence and eyewitness account is you trusting someone to look on your behalf.

Any priest, minister bishop or pope will happily show you mountains of evidence and eyewitness accounts.

MR, that's a double standard. If it's God, you're a die-hard skeptic (something you loathe) - you have a history of not even wanting to discuss it.
But if it's UFOs, you're happy to take any story you can get your hands on. Is that rational?

No it isn't. It's looking up the accounts for yourself and checking up on the evidence yourself and making up your own mind without anyone telling you to. That's what I'm talking about. Searching for the facts yourself without someone doing it on your behalf.

I've searched for the evidence for God myself like I did with ufos, Accounts given by priests, apologists and theologians. And nothing convincing has turned up. So like I said, it's a closed case for me, unless more evidence suddenly turns up. But I don't expect any will.

How do you know what I believe about God if I have a history of never discussing it? I personally give credence to the notion of a Universal force for good that we can appeal to in times of need. Probably not a God in any intelligible sense, but still a spiritual belief in something beyond nonetheless. It is something that includes us as parts of itself. Like consciousness or the Mind for instance. Taoism has always attracted me in this respect.
