    1. Find all the roots, real and complex, of the equation x3 – 2x2 + 25x – 50 = 0.

      x= 2, 5i, –5i. First, factor the equation to get x2(x – 2) + 25(x – 2) = (x – 2)(x2 + 25) = 0. Using the multiplication property of zero, you determine that x – 2 = 0 and x = 2. You also get x2 + 25 = 0 and x2 = –25. Take the square root of each side, and

Simplify the radical, using the equivalence for i, and the complex solutions are

The real root is 2, and the imaginary roots are 5i and –5i.

The bible has parts in the text which indicate it is OK to beat your wife

    Is that right?

Ummmmm, which right am I talking about - the right - it is in the text? or the right it is OK to beat your wife?

    OR

The bible has parts in the text which indicate it is OK to beat your wife

    Is that correct?

Ummmmm which correct am I talking about - the correct - it is in the text? or the correct it is OK to beat your wife?

So while the word right and correct are close in meaning they are not exact in interchangeability

But go with what floats your boat

They have several meanings. It is correct and right that that's what the Bible says.

I just copied it. I'm sure Michael 345 will be along shortly to say that it was plagiarized.

My point was that the fact that 2+2=4 is simple doesn't change anything so I made it more complex (just for you)

    It didn't change my point.

Since this (Am I.....) appears to show you ARE claiming the work as YOURS yes you plagiarized

It's hard to plagiarize when you say that you copied it.

Right has one meaning that means the same as correct and another meaning in the moral sense. You know that, I sure, and just like to argue...amiright!

    plagiarise
take (the work or an idea of someone else) and pass it off as one's own.
    As in
Which I already covered back a few posts back #18

I prefer discuss but if argue works better for you this is where I drop out

A large segment of the population of the supposedly most advanced country in the world doesn't believe that there is a coronavirus pandemic.
They consult Twitter or Facebook for their medical advice. The implications of this leave me breathless!

This question has a right answer: we just don't know what it is yet. I.e. there are two propositions: A) there is life beyond Earth; B) there is not life beyond Earth. One of those answers is necessarily correct (i.e. there is no possible world where it is correct that both there is life beyond Earth and that there is not life beyond Earth), and thus there is a right answer. It is not dependent upon context, subjectivity, etc.

With the other questions you pose, because they are subjective there is no right answer to them as written (i.e. lacking the context or subjective viewpoint etc).

Good point. You are right of course. There is a correct answer but we just don't know it yet.

Regarding that question. I've always assumed that it was very likely that life was abundant but I'm now open to the possibilities that "intelligent" life as we know it may not be as abundant as it would seem that it should be.

That's not to say that its not but I'm much more open to the other possibilities.

A (male) barber in a certain town shaves all the men in the town who don't shave themselves. The barber shaves no men who do shave themselves.

Question that has no right answer: Does the barber shave himself?

When I married my 1st wife, the laws in the state of Illinois allowed me to "beat my wife within reason"
    silly me
I foolishly shared this knowledge with my wife, who, without skipping a beat, said "not if you like waking up in the morning"

So, if he shaves himself, he is no longer the barber (in the scenario)?

    That's a good one.
