Yo all , I am trying to learn some Einstein stuff yeah and I am on space-time . I have read that space and energy are an interwoven fabric , did the dude mean space and space-time energy are indistinguishable because they both transparent or wah ?

Using special relativity, two objects moving relative to each other will have different measurements for the same time or space intervals. There is a formula showing the connection.

You wah ? you sayin tha history is different for people ? I thought history was measured at 1.s of history per 1.s time passed measured ?

No, I don't believe he said something like that.

This is a bit confusing actually if you have never investigated it. Everyone experiences 1 second as 1 second. However if there is another person moving relative to you, then you would see that their second is slower than your second. The same is true of this other person, in other words they would say that your second is slower than their second.

Yeah man, cus the big bang theory in the 40's then said space was expanding instead of the indistinguishable field energy

Wah ? Are you mad or summit dude ? If their second was slower than your second , they would experience your history measured observing them .

I agree that space is expanding. I don't ever recall the idea that space was 'indistinguishable field energy'.
No, I am just letting you know some of the aspects of Einstein's special relativity.
Sorry, I don't know what you mean by that.

Well my good sir , this topic asks a question and the Earths magnetic field demonstrates that the Earths magnetic field is indistinguishable from space and independent of space . Einsteins thought was that space and time were some sort of interwoven fabric . The question of the thread asks if he really meant indistinguishable ?

The earths magnetic field is distinguishable from space.
Einstein's relativity says there are four dimensions 3 spatial and 1 temporal. I think it is misleading to think of them as an interwoven fabric.
What is indistinguishable? Time and space? Of course you can distinguish between the time and space. You need to carefully phrase you question to get a meaningful response!

Well dude , I think it is misleading too !
Yo know that this Higg's guy came along later and suggested a field ? Isn't this Einstein curvature stuff related to that , which is indistinguishable from space ?

This is one of those "are the properties of a thing the thing itself, or is the thing something else" type of . . . things.

I believe you will find that Einstein indeed equated the curvature of spacetime due to gravity, to spacetime itself, or his equations say the curvature is the same as the (gravitational) energy; spacetime is a field equivalent to the gravitational energy at each point, type of thing.

This Einsteinian spacetime does not look like the world we live in, except it 'really is' the world we live in, suggesting that being an observer means having to see a 'broken' universe, where one dimension looks special.

No. The Higgs field is not the same thing as spacetime and Einstein refers to spacetime warping due to the presence of a mass. Fields are distinguishable from spacetime. A field exists in spacetime, but everything exists in spacetime!

Well pal, earlier you said ''I agree that space is expanding.''

Do you mean the maths is expanding ?

No, my good Sir*, that is not what he means. Obviously.

Well pal, you conna tell these days wa peeps mean sometimes ! Space-time is a mathematical model rather than a physical model .

Field expansion I can agree on , fields being indistinguishable from space in appearance unless of course lensing effect bu space expanding sounds worded wrongly .

    True.
Space isn't a "thing" that can expand. Outside of pop-sci books, generally, one just says that distances between (gravitationally-unbound) objects are universally increasing.

Thank you Dave for your reply but can you explain what Einstein meant by an interwoven ''fabric'' or is this also just something ''pop science'' misinterpreted ?

In general relativity I personally know of two possible '''fabrics''

    1. A speculative Higgs field

    2. The Earths magnetic field

I assume both allow light to pass through and both are indistinguishable from space , I say assume because I have no agreement in this thread on this , so far !

Does anyone know why this expansion should occur?

It is agreed,I understand that it was not caused by an explosion but is there a theory as to what caused or initiated this process (inflation followed by expansion) in the first place?

Well pal , in physics there is only two ways something can expand so for sure pal it is one of those reasons or even maybe both of those reasons .

1.Internal force (Example a balloon inflating)

2.External force (Example an elastic band being stretched)

Take your pick , it is one or the other or both .
