It takes courage to support democracy, courage that is sadly lacking in the nations you mentioned leadership.

It is the desire for peace that Putin relies upon. A key part of his strategy.

200,000 russian soldiers with hard ware against 250,000 Ukrainians ?
    its not equal.
russia has overwhelming power to bombard
western allies should have moved to end the civil war years ago
donald trump pulling troops out of turkey started this path to war by removing the super power stability.
what was biden hoping for ? a truce ?
7 years of civil war ...
it looks like all sides have failed to end the civil war
now russia is going to end it for better or worse

Early reports suggest that a major Russian advance across the border into Kharkiv (Ukraine's second largest city) has successfully been repelled. Photos of lots of destroyed military vehicles.

The Russians are having more success on a couple of other fronts. They are pushing southwards out of Belarus west of the Chernobyl exclusion area towards the west side of Kyiv. There are reports that Belarussian troops are fighting alongside the Russians.

There are multiple reports of Russian paratroopers having conducted a helicopter-borne assault into the Antonov airport (home of a very major aircraft manufacturing plant) just outside Kyiv. The Ukrainians' 4th Rapid Response Brigade has surrounded them. There are reports that a Russian armored column is trying to punch through to them from the north.

The Russians biggest success might be in the south. They have pushed out of Crimea almost unopposed and headed northwest to the Dneper river outside the city of Kherson. The Ukrainians are putting up a not very effective defense at the river but the Russians have seized the main bridge and are crossing the river under fire as we speak.

Surprisingly heavy air attacks on points in western Ukraine in the direction of Poland. Surprisingly little Russian activity in the far east of Ukraine near the Separatist areas. Most analyists had expected the main Russian thrust there from east to west. But Ukrainian towns that had been expected to be the first targets of a Russian attack are reporting no Russians to be seen. The biggest thrust seems to be southwards out of Belarus to the west of Kyiv, with the evident intention of taking the Ukrainian capital.

All in all it looks like the Russians are going very big and are driving to take the whole country and not just partition it. But they are taking casualties. There are photos of crashed Russian helicopters, don't know where the photos were taken. Ukrainian fighter jets are still in the air.

Intellectually I knew they would invade but emotionally it still shocked me.
It is good that NATO had been increasing it's defensive ability in the last few years.
Sad to think about the help that all the weapons left in Afghanistan could have been to the Ukrainian people.

    strategic defense point
    deny terrorist dirty bomb materials
possibly existing infrastructure to build a new power plant

Russia must be pro active to prevent another situation like the beslin school massacre
with nato allowing tens of thousands of muslim extremists to walk through their borders un checked, its only a matter of when not if.

usa should never have allowed this reality to become a viable option

this is the trump administrations dirty laundry

all those middle eastern radicals swarming up through italy & greece for years
    going un checked

its a waiting game for new terrorist networks to be built

while the usa pulled out of turkey

everything was pointing to a massive hole in the regional stability and the usa leader of the free world has forced russias hand

crazy that they would let it get to this
    but now its done
its too late to go back in time and change things
    no time machines around

    i kept saying
they need to form a military line in the mediterranean and stop the illegals

    now you see why
Russia must act to protect its own security from terrorist cells gaining supply's and weapons and dirty bomb materials

long lasting civil wars are magnets for extremists

and what sane person would expect russia to allow a new Afghanistan to be created on their border

i think this is a complete failure of foreign policy diplomats and world leaders

it should never have needed to go this far
    but its too late now

I don't think a proxy Afghanistan would be one thinking of NATO membership...

You're guessing, aren't you? Just making stuff up and writing it down as it occurs to you.
It sounds like you're living in a sort of alternate universe. You don't seem to get what the Russian invasion of Ukraine is about, or why it is happening.
Are these thoughts of yours connected to one another, or separate?

When you say the "usa should never have allowed...", what are you thinking the USA should have or could have done?
When you talk about Trump's dirty laundry, what specifically are you referring to (because, this is Trump you're talking about; it's almost all dirty laundry with him)?
What do "middle eastern radicals" have to do with Russia invading Ukraine? What's the link you're trying to make (if any)?
What does Turkey have to do with anything?
Crazy sounds like the appropriate word.
You mean you wanted to stop refugees fleeing war zones like Syria?
Tell me why you think that Russia invading Ukraine is going to help with that. This is nutty.
This is not a civil war. It is an aggressive attack by one nation on another. What are you talking about?
    What are you talking about?
I think this is a complete failure on your part to connect with reality.
So who are you supporting here? Anybody?

This is not a man-on-man cage fight. You don't seem to understand what's going on.

If I am not mistaken any nuclear material has been removed from Chernobyl except that which is still too hot to even get close to...but you may have a point even if it may be a weak one...

you want to promote cultural genocide and your hiding it behind fake equality

    pathetic

what did the trump administration do to help Ukraine ?
    less than nothing
    they helped to destabilize NATO
waged a media war against the WHO and the UN

they forced russias hand by destabilizing the region deliberately
where are they(the previous administration) all now ?

what would you do if you were russia ?

I think you are projecting too far into the future. Yes you are probably correct in your concerns but only if climate change continues as the models suggest.
Obviously if and when a large percentage of Africa's 1.2 billion people starts moving towards Europe as climate change refugees Europe/Russia etc. will have to do something to stop them and no doubt it will involve some sort of force. But by this time it will be glaringly obvious as Europe deals with it's own internal displacement issues, due to climate change. Managing the refugee crisis will be a huge challenge, much more than is today IMO.

So Trump owed Putin a few favors? But you have to remember that unlike Putin, Trump was elected to his position democratically by the voters, where as Putin is not.
