Which country are you in that charges so much???? 12 dollars? Is that HKD? USD? AUD? CAD? 'Cos it sounds quite a bit. UK it's about GBP1.00 for a black coffee. The bolded part is an oxymoron. Like US Intelligence. Or small crowd. "Granular" precludes it from being remotely "quality". Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Country - Australia so ($) Australia Today exchange rate ($) 1 Australia equals Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! So you're paying over £6 for a coffee at McDonald's??? Okay, the UK sizes are probably somewhat smaller for £1, but still, that's effing expensive!! As for the granules, most granules sold in supermarkets here are in glass jars. Even the supermarket cheap own-label stuff. It's really only the economy / catering packs that are sold in the cardboard drums. You can even get tea in granules!! Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!

It's actually 5 Australian dollars for a large flat white at McDonalds. I learnt how to make billy tea when I started working in a Telecom conduit gang in the 1980's. First off you add clean water to the billy, put it on the fire/gas bottle, bring it to the boil and then remove it from the fire/turn off the gas. Add 2 to 3 heaped table spoons of leaf tea to the water and allow it to stand for 3 minutes. Pick up the billy by the handle and gently rotate it 3 times (just twist your wrist). Finally lift the billy up 1 inch/25mm from the table top and then just drop it down, to settle the tea leaves at the bottom, and you will have your tea ready for pouring.
One way bypassed buying coffee at the shopping centre was to buy a Adult Zippy Cup for ($)2 Has insulation and a sealable drinking spout. So take your home brewed coffee, take a biscuit from the packet and few moments relaxing before returning home Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! At Tim Hortons I can get a large double-double for $2 Canadian (no extra charge for cream and sugar).
The best way here is to get a government issued Seniors Card and get it for free (in some places like Hungry Jacks/Burger King). Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!

Haven't had tea in quite a few years... Even after all that time I am not even laughing a bit about the disrespect... OK, I might have chuckled a bit about them calling it tea.
