History Channel just did a bit on it.

the only thing I can think of that can make an object like that is a lathe.

History channel also highlighted a hole that had a matching taper which was overhead.

Like what? What is this about?

Please give a brief summary. Is there something you'd like to discuss? Is there a question?

In order to make the core you would need rotating gears that bring the cutter at a steady rate down the rail and offset rails in order to make the taper.

Likewise if they could prove the core and the hole were made as part of the same process… there isn’t a tool or machine that exists today that could create both at once.

The link mentions many false ways it could be made, like with hammer drills that wouldn’t leave evenly spaced striations.

    It’s truly an enigma.

Is there a summary of what "core 7" is, and why it is supposed to be special? Or would I have to read through the extensive webpage you linked to try to work it out?

    Well here is relevant information.

    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3779551/

Which if you want to take my word for it means: at least one ancient Egyptian knew the value of placing two cones together in order to complete a tail stock.
