I find this quite beneficial! http://www.lugradio.org/competitions/sh4ct/joachim.jpg phlogistician 02-02-09, 09:18 AM What are you trying to achieve? Faster data transfers on your LAN? Stryder 02-02-09, 10:44 AM Make sure your Network is configured to be a different frequency range than that of a neighbour or other radiological producing equipment. (Don't stand a router too near a power pack or computer, don't hide it behind steel shelving or place it right next to a solid stone wall. What you'd want for the best broadcast range is height and as much open area as possible.) Set High Speed streaming (Like and XBOX 360 and PC rigged for media center) to the 802.11a range. If you intend to have other PC's or peripherals attach to the network, attach them to 802.11g. If you find a slowdown in either range you always have 802.11b spare however I wouldn't connect much to it. Make sure when you pick "Channels" that they don't conflict with other neighbouring networks to lessen the occurrences of collisions. Make sure you encrypt and password your network, this will lessen the potential for people to tie up your network that aren't suppose to be accessing it. Don't torrent on Wireless, if you want to download through torrent's use a Cable and plug your computer in. (This is really useful if you are running more than one computer over the wifi network) configure your Operating systems not to run redundant servers. (simply some OS's install things you don't use that could take up bandwidth without you knowing about it.) |
