View Full Version : malt liquor
angrybellsprout 01-23-08, 10:33 PM What is your favorite brand of malt liquor?
My favorite is 211, but it isn't always easy to get in 40oz bottles so I generally end up with my second favorite OE 800. I also accept Hurricane just to change it up from time to time.
spidergoat 01-23-08, 10:33 PM Private Stock, in the gallon jugs.
angrybellsprout 01-23-08, 11:22 PM It just really bugs me that when I go to some of the 'whiter' areas that you can't find malt liquor :(
Orleander 01-24-08, 10:09 AM I love Mickey's
They even have little puzzles under the caps.
RubiksMaster 01-24-08, 05:10 PM The only malt liquor I've ever had is Olde E. I didn't like it much. It looks like urine. I suppose it does it's job, but I'd rather just have regular beer.

Whiter areas? :bugeye:
Just like you cant find louis the 13th in "blacker" areas......come on man
Just because an area has an abundance of white people doesnt mean cheap drunks are going to be less cheap.
spidergoat 01-24-08, 05:24 PM That's just good marketing. You don't see billboards for Kools in white neighborhoods either.
fadingCaptain 01-24-08, 05:32 PM old E haha. haven't had that in a long time. midnight dragon. crazy horse. used to have those.
domesticated om 01-24-08, 07:13 PM After having tried pretty much everything that 7/11 has to offer, I can pretty much say the majority of all commercially available malt liquor is swill.
I currently do not have a favorite ----although I have wanted to try a limited edition beer released by Dogfish Head brewery (called Liquor de Malt)
http://www.dogfish.com/brewings/Limited_Edition_Beers/Liquor_de_Malt/21/index.htm
I'm pretty sure it's an awesome brew.
Orleander 01-24-08, 07:19 PM aren't wine coolers really fruit flavoured malt liquor?
RubiksMaster 01-24-08, 08:17 PM No, they're malt beverages. Malt liquor is basically beer with less hops and more alcohol. Malt liquor and wine coolers are both made with malt, but it's a different brewing process I think.
angrybellsprout 01-24-08, 10:31 PM It really bothered me because I was out with this girl one night, and she said something about getting some alcohol. So I was like sure girl, let's get some 40s, and her response was ??
Spent the next 30-45 min driving around her neighborhood hitting up all the corner stores, grocery stores and even booze stores, and I couldn't find a bottle of malt liquor or even a bottle of md20/20. The last place that we stopped, a grocery store, had some Boones Farm, something else she had never heard of, so I was like whatever that stuff's pretty good too.
I just have trouble drinking beer anymore, it just doesn't do anything for me. I need to go grab a 40.
spidergoat 01-25-08, 10:01 AM That's classy.
Orleander 01-25-08, 10:44 AM That's classy.
LMFAO!!! :roflmao:
Well, he didn't want to be sexist, so he was treating her like a guy. A guy he never ever wanted to see again. :D
Spud Emperor 01-25-08, 10:50 AM Umm!
Isn't malt liquor classified as Scotch or at least Irish whisky/ey or at worst, moonshine not premixers?
Glenfiddich or Glenmorangie or about a hundred other single malts before the crap that's being dished up here.
Fark. Sci need a Scottish voice.
angrybellsprout 01-25-08, 01:39 PM It just shocked me that this girl would brag about how much of a drinker she was, but had never even heard of md 20/20, boones farm or olde e.
Though one of the girls I hang out with up at my uni would just come over and throw back a couple of 40oz's every now and then with me.
domesticated om 01-25-08, 01:48 PM Malt liquor is beer.
Malt liquor is an American term referring to a type of beer that has an artificially-induced high alcohol content and is therefore considered too alcoholic to be marketed as "beer." In the UK, similarly-made beverages are dubbed super-strength lager.

The funny thing about this definition is the fact that some one my favorite beers/ales have 8- 14% abv. One of the local specialty stores near me says they will be getting the Dogfish "120 minute IPA" within the month., and it's 20%.
Most malt liquors top out at around 6%-9%. I know pretty much all of the U.S. convenient store brews like colt 45/hurricane/schlitz/red bull/etc are all 5-6%
spidergoat 01-25-08, 01:51 PM Well, it's beer flavored crap to which they add alcohol. No self-respecting drinker would touch it (unless they are poor or in college).
Orleander 01-25-08, 01:54 PM or they are a light weight who just wants to get drunk so they can have wild circus sex.....so I've heard:shy:
angrybellsprout 01-25-08, 01:57 PM I'm sure that even when I do start getting a bit of money that I'll still be drinking it, just as I'm still that I'll still be eating ramen, mac n cheese, rice, hot dogs, etc.
Malt liquor is beer
We Americans call a lot of things "beer". Budweiser, for instance.
We also refer to malt liquor as "wine". (Do they still make "wine coolers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pA6JjftTS8)"?)
Last time I remember doing malt liquor was probably '94. Zima with orange slices, while tripping on mushrooms.
Hmm ... well, I came across an article from ScienceDaily (http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2005/03/050326115140.htm) that uses the specific phrase "malt liquor beers". I just never would have called Zima or Bartles & Jaymes "beer".
(Gotta love this old spot for Schlitz Malt Liquor (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCm07WceaQw).)
By far,,,, King Cobra. The best one in my area, tastes so nice, although is only 6%; Bull Ice is like 8%, and is very strong, but the King Cobra seems to get one pretty drunk.
fadingCaptain 01-25-08, 04:34 PM Oh yeah, shlitz malt liquor. The bull. Not a drink more manly. Ladies will flock with that on your breath.
Orleander 01-25-08, 05:33 PM Is schlitz the Billy Dee Williams beer?
