I did have an Ebay snipe program that was tottaly free and would snipe at whatever time I asked it too.

I have just done a clean install and now I can't find it. Does anyone here use a truly free fully working snipe program? One without a limit on your snipe time etc?

The program I did have was not net based so my computer and ebay account had to be open, but it was still a great program. Anyone know what it is called or any other program that will do the same job?

Its a program that you set to bid for you in the last few seconds.

I did manage to find one in Freebsd Ports, however I'll have to test it to give any feedback on how good it is.

Try JBidWatcher, it's a Java based stand-alone windows program.

what do you need to snipe for? sniping doesn't really work because people put their max-bid in, and if you try and snipe the last second, chances are that they will still be higher.

I have a memory problem so I more often than not forget when my items are coming up. But snipping is good anyway it means you can set a proce and leave it, it saves getting in to a bidding war.

Cato, people don't want to pay a maximum, so tend to watch an auction close, and outsnipe each other, with successive small bets.

Sniping DOES work. Bidding too soon just puts the price of an item up. If you follow a few auctions, you will see that many items receive very few bids at first, and then there is a feeding frenzy in the last hour.

I realize that, but you can't snipe in the traditional sense. you simply wait until the last minute to get into a bidding war. it not really hard to do it manually, but if one forgets when the end is, then I guss it would help alot =]

If you place a bid with a minute to go, some bidders will place many individual small bids within that last 60 seconds trying to get above your bid, running up the selling price. Some sellers will use 'shills' to try to start a bidding war. It works best for the buyer to place his maximum bid within the last 10 seconds to eliminate the shills and others that just keep bidding and bidding until they run up an unreasonable selling price. No, I don't use a snipe program myself, but I do usually place my maximum bid within the last 10 seconds if there are several bidders interested in the item. It eliminates the bidding wars, unless the war is started by two or more morons convinced they 'just have to have' the item.

Exactly, as soon as you show interest, the price gets driven up. Wait until the last minute, and there is less opportunity for this.

I've been shilled on Ebay before, the dumbasses were so clumsy at it, it was obvious. I was bidding on a pair of sunglasses, and the vendor had half a dozen identical pairs for sale. I bidded on one pair, leaving several pairs without any bids, and got a bid against me by an account with one feedback. So I emailed them and told them to stop shilling or I'd report them. Case solved.

I've had the same but I clocked it and I let them win. They then contacted me when the auction ended to offer me a second chance bid.

Another point for successful bids in Ebay. When trying to purchase something note however many people are selling that item. Don't find yourself over bidding on an item you could of purchased straight away for less from another seller.

Yeah, had that too. I declined, saying that I suspected shill bidding and if that was the case they deserved to pay the listing fee again. Need to teach these people a lesson.

Yeah, I think shillers rely on people being too focussed on an item they've already bid on, and forgetting that the same item might be on sale for less with someone else. As soon as you are outbid, search again. New auctions spring up all the time!
