The obvious; paying our taxes, inventing something of international interest; but what is the single best thing?

You will never know. Each of our interactions has a butterfly effect on others; we have no idea just which of the millions of actions we take in our lives will play the greatest role in advancing our society.

You could go to your grave having saved the nation and never know it, never be famous for it. I could compliment my Aunt at her birthday party, she then gives the Prime Minister's wife a wonderful massage, she in turn gives the PM a very invigorating fuck, knocking him out with a smile the whole night, he wakes up deeply refreshed and decides not to invade Iraq, and terrorists do not kill 50 people, one of whom goes on to invent a cure for a future biochemical WMD that is unleashed in Britain in 2029.

Adopt the fairtax and kick people out of office that do not represent us (probably most of the house and senate).

I love how people only have impractical solutions. here is an idea, why don't you work on educating people? thats all it takes.

Well I hope you are not talking about my ideas. Fairtax is practical and realistic. Kicking people out of office that do not represent us involves educating people as to what is really going on.

Be the best person you can be. Set an example for others. Help people, especially the young. If you have children, the greatest thing you can do for the next generation, and therefore the country, is to love their mother forever.

I guess you're male. If female, then don't have children until you have a father for them upon whom you can depend to follow the above advice to men.

Join the war, and shoot humans for the sake of global conquest.

Pay more and more taxes so politicians can get richer and richer and richer and richer.

Assist with the anihillattion of all indians that were originally here, take all their lands, pollute the lands, and stuff those uncivilized yolks in small pocketed reservations to make it look like you are not doing anything wrong. then set up immigration to keep foreigners out. After all, this is our land. We stoled it fair and square.

Get addicted to reality shows, tv, video games, mmorpg, www, dope, processed food so that your mind and body will be numb enough that you cannot think for yourself.

Support large corporations by working ofr them, and consuming their products.

Give the government everything you are making so that you are left with just enough to live so that you can continue working like the animal that you are.

Yes like a robot. Why think for yourself, and question your leaders, when you can follow them with complete and utter mindlessness?

Enforce campaign funding reform and enforce personal financial accountability in government:
No contributions from any source except private individuals.
No contributions from anyone that can not vote for you (such as donating to the campaign for another state’s Senator).
Limit the amount that any individual can give to any campaign to one month’s salary at minimum wage.
Require all public servants to open their financial records to the public and keep them open for the duration of the time they served.
Stop ALL monetary/gift based “lobbying” (i.e. legalized bribery). All lobbying must take place in an open public forum, and can not include the exchange of money in any form (including campaign donations) or gifts.
Disallow using any finds except for those raised under these limitations (including disallowing a candidate’s personal funds for his/her own campaign).
Without popular support, you don’t stand a chance.

Break apart the two-party monopoly. The act of disallowing campaign contributions from organizations would be a huge factor in this, in addition:
Enact a form of runoff/preference voting.

These are some small steps that can be taken towards attaining the democratic ideal of elected officials actually acting as public servants. There are also some steps that may be more drastic and less likely to happen, but necessary, none the less, in my opinion.

Reduce the power of the President:
Remove many of the more powerful positions from under the realm of the Executive branch.
Break the Presidential position into distinct, separate positions for Head of State, Head of Government and Secretary of Foreign Affairs.
Place control of the military in the hands of the Congress exclusively.
Require that all military spending/efforts be geared towards defense of the country alone and protection of the borders/airspace. No offensive warfare at all.
