Well i play very fast and quite systematically rather than taking my time to be accurate, so that does mean i miss things and restart a fair bit if im going for a good time, also sometimes you get a choice of 2 squares (both equally possible to have a mine) so really its take your pick, i do those first since otherwise you can do the whole board and come down to luck on the last mine, i've had that ruin one of my better times before.
Dont play whilst taking sleeping pills or other forms of medication.....

Yeah, I hate to play with chances unless I have to. Of course, since you can restart as often as you like I may as well take a few chances even if it is possible to work it out.

Its really just something that takes practice, i used to have plenty of free time at work. The 1s are the most useful numbers for me.

My best minesweeper game (expert level) was completed in 1 second! Believe it or not. I was fortunate in that only a single mine was laid so it took only 2 clicks to complete the game. Here is a screenshot as proof.....

This one took some seriously fast button clicking. But I did it.

Woah, I can only get a minimum of 10 mines and a maximum of 456 on an expert-sized board, am I missing something?

Anyways, my best time for beginner minesweeper that I can prove is a 9-second one. I might have a 4 second one on my old computer, just got lucky. I used to take pictures of my highest scores to prove it, but I don't know what I did with them all so until I find a pic of it I'll stick with 9.

I have an unrelated question here: how do you take "pics" on the comp...I always see and hear about that, but I don't know how. Anyway, my best times suck, but I have:
    Bigginner: 14 s
    Intermidiate: to emmbassing to share
    Expert: ditto^

Yes, you are missing the simple fact that both those images are fake! (ie. they have been artificially manipulated.)

You need to do a “screen capture” (ie. take a snapshot of whatever is on the screen and save it as a jpeg, gif, bmp or tif file). Many imaging software programs will do it. You can also do it through Windows OS. Most keyboards have a ‘print screen key’ (sometimes abbreviated to PrtScrn or something like that). Pressing it will make a screen capture to the clipboard. Then you can open any graphics/imaging software you like and paste the screen capture into a new image file.

Expert - 279, and that's where I think I'll leave it, my times have only been improving now by a couple of seconds, and the game is damn heavy for RSI (Repetitive Strain Injury), especially as you have to blow ten fields before you can get one to try to sweep.

In addition to what Hercules has said,

To take a picture of the window you're viewing (and not the whole screen) you press 'ALT-PRTSC'. 'Print screen' is the key next to 'scroll lock' and 'pause/break'. Goto Start...Run... 'mspaint' and paste to view/manipulate the image.

Sadly, a screenshot is not proof of anything as my above fake pic shows. To 'prove' your time you have to download a special version of minesweeper which creates a special 'save' file which you can share. I, however, don't take it seriously enough to do that.

I tend to play minesweeper best when I'm mildly ticked off, I take more uncalculated risks, and the game moves along further. I've finished a beginner in 6 seconds once awhile back but it's not the time recorded on my current computer. Regardless I can say it was a fluke.
