we know that we can make search for topics with search engines, and search results are displayed in many forms.

I ask if is possible to list search results by number of hits that they get, so that the one link that has more hits compare in the first place in the search result.

Please, how i can do it...

When you look at a search engine and how it works you have a few methods.

One is extremely processor and bandwidth hungry, where you run a search, and a system spiders actual pages to try and work out what you are looking for. But this is not cost effective, and can cause alot of systems problems.

Google and most search engines nowadays work on the usage of CACHEing, basically they send a request out for details using the DNS lookups, and create a whole CACHE of a persons site.
This can then be run on the system to do the pain staking searchs and takes the weight off the bandwidth.

(this is why with google you can look at a cache)

If I was to design a search engine, I think I would add to it by allowing a person to type a URL into the search box, if it exists then the site gets spidered and cached.

Thanks to Avatar pointing out a site, you can even look at some of the old caches of pages through: www.archive.org

(although it doesn't like CGI bulletin boards, or things that are regularly updated, how about a look at the old www.exosci.com?
