I'm 62 yeas old, Nick ....I've seen a lot over the years. I've had my very best friends lie to me and cheat me when the ocassion presented itself. I've had girlfriends lie and cheat for various reasons/excuses. I've had clients lie to me in order to make more money ...by trying to force me to design buildings with substandard materials and methods.

No, Nick, I'm sorry ...I've just seen too much for my own good. Maybe that's why humans only live for some 72 years or so ....after about 50 years, you begin to see human nature for what it really is ....and it ain't nice!

Nick, I've never known a human that didn't lie at one time or another in his/her life. And if they've done it once, how can you ever trust them again?

Tell me, Nick, how many people have you ever know or do know that does not lie? And if they have or do lie, what makes you think that they won't do it again?

Yes, Nick, it is sad ....but it's also the way it is.

You have far too many expectations. People are not infallible you know, but neither are they evil. Most people lie out of fear, not selfishness.

Acceptance and love can be very powerful in bringing people together; distrust and suspicion creates nothing but walls.

I think my point is the the US didn't stop the war in Lebanon because they didn't want to, not because they have no diplomatic influence.

    I disagree, Sam. (see below)

Fear? Fear of what? No, Sam, it ain't fear that makes them lie, it's their selfishness and greed ...greed in the form of "How can I get 'x' from this guy/gal?" I'm sorry, Sam, but the empirical evidence is stacked against your ideals of human nature ...stacked deeply, I might add.

Where can I buy some of this "acceptance and love"? Does Wal-Mart carry any of it? I hope it's not injections, cause I hate needles!

Sam, ya' want some evidence of acceptance and love? Check out this forum and the posts that appear ...how often do you see "acceptance and love"? And how often do you see "distrust and suspicion"?

Sam, your idealism is to be commended, but I fear that it won't last very long out in the world of dealing with humans.

Hmm, I think they expressed some concern very early in the war. But it's like most things "diplomatic" ....they don't fuckin' work!

But I will concede that I think the US was hoping that Israel would bomb Lebanon and the Hezbollah into the Stone Age ....I know I was! I was really, really disappointed to see Israel stop the bombing and shelling. I kept hoping to see the next news shots of Lebanon showing nothing but a smokiing ruin, completly leveled and total and utter destruction.

I'm guessing of course, but I don't think the Israel would have stopped even if we'd have declared war on them!!!

Maybe they wouldn't stop, and maybe US influence isn't what it was, but diplomacy is how wars always end, even this one.

Lots of fears in the human psyche. Fear of inadequacy, insecurity, failure, being misunderstood, blah blah.

That is the catch, I'm afraid. You don't get the love and acceptance, you give it.

I see mostly reactions to reactions, nothing more. If you break the cycle, you'd be surprised how very human all of them are.
I'm no idealist, Baron mon ami, I'm a realist.

    But I had good teachers.

No. Your view of human nature is just expressed through your subjective experience with humans. This is purely psychological. And I have to admit that I am the same way, just like everyone else. I was raised by good parents and that made a lot of difference in the way I see the world. Still is subjective, you cannot run away from it. Having said that, both selfish and truthful behaviours are widespread accross the globe. Which one you believe is human nature depends only on your own experience.

This is why wisdom, contrary to what a lot of idiotic adults believe, is not from experience, but from an ability to discern the truth within those experiences.

Hmm. So ...Iran has different experiences from those of the US, they both discern the "truth" differently, they both find that they can't agree with the "truth" of the other, so they start a major war!

Yep, perhaps you're right. But then, wait ....."the truth" ...? What is the truth and who is to say? Who decides? Or is it just a constant state of human disagreement and conflict?

Ahh, perhaps I was right, huh?
