    Hi Guys,

I posted on here last year asking people to help with my PhD research. I got a good response rate, so here I am again on asking for help with my final PhD study.

The research is on Emotional Intelligence and I desperately need males and females born in the UK to take part. It is all conducted over the internet and simply involves completing a number of questionnaires. In order to reward taking part you can receive an assessment of your emotional intelligence, happiness and satisfaction with life, as well as interpretations of these scores. To participate go to www.e-intell.co.uk

I'd also really appreciate it if people could forward the link on to friends, family, work colleagues etc.

    Thanks a lot guys!

Shouldn't it be called emotional wellness instead of emotional intelligence? Just a thought

Well, it's emotional intelligence because intelligence can be tested and measured, you know like every other intelligence. Emotional wellness cannot be calculated, who defines what well is? Emotional intelligence is easily defined.

Emotional Intelligence combines the following five characteristics and abilities:

    1. Self-awareness--knowing your emotions, recognizing feelings as they occur, and discriminating between them
    2. Mood management--handling feelings so they're relevant to the current situation and you react appropriately
    3. Self-motivation--"gathering up" your feelings and directing yourself towards a goal, despite self-doubt, inertia, and impulsiveness
    4. Empathy--recognizing feelings in others and tuning into their verbal and nonverbal cues
    5. Managing relationships--handling interpersonal interaction, conflict resolution, and negotiations

I never knew how important it was to be held while you cry. Now I do.

Hmm, all of those sound perfectly legitimate for criminals, sociopaths and psychopaths, yet the implication of the post seems to be that it's all for "good" things.

It definitely does seem to point to one's social integration skills. But, after all, we are a social species. Thus, our emotional cues should, by and large, direct us to play nice within our group.

However, each of those criteria could be easily reinterpreted into a manipulative characteristic which would mean that an emotionally intelligent person could easily lie, cheat, and steal his way to the top.
