When I was in the 7th grade, we had this class simulation of the forming of the UN after WW2. We were split into groups of 3, and we had to decide on how to vote on each issue. When we came to the specific question of how the UN should work, there were options for making the UN as it is today, for having no UN at all, some other options I don't remember now, and finally, there was the one that caught my eye: "other (make up your own idea)". I came up with the idea that there would be a world government. My best friend was in the same group with me, so he agreed, and even though the other student protested that this would never happen, the teacher said that it was a majority vote, 2 out of 3.

I still think it is a good idea, but very, very difficult to implement. Ultimately, you have to ask yourself what the purpose of it is. If trade has already been freely opened, then you can't argue that it will help the economy much. And what of the countries that don't want to be a part of it?

What I came up with is that the purpose of it is specifically for providing a more effective way of dealing with countries that don't want to be held accountable for their actions. A world government could hold the US much more responsible for failing to live up to promises about reducing air pollution. It could prevent the destruction of rainforests in countries that don't care to save it.

But how do you go about establishing it into place? There are people in some countries, especially the US, that resent any kind of breaking down of isolationism policies. Some want to see the UN and EU completely broken apart as it is. I still don't have an answer.

Maybe what we do need is a WW3 after all. Panicked people are much more likely to accept an idea that promises them what they want.

No, you missed the point... individual countries, nations and peoples would lose their identities in the mishmash of a world government. the Brits dont want the euro partly because they dont want to be labelled as "europeans", which is highly understandable. The USA, being isolated, wouldn't have a problem of this nature given its isolation, and their history only spans a few hundred years as opposed to thousands, so perhaps it's more difficult for you to understand.

I'm Australian... and would be VERY upset if someone labelled us as being part of the "Greater South-Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere"... get it?

In order to make it happen, nuclear explosions or fall outs has to affect 1 to 2 millions each in the following areas:

    North America
    China
    Indo-Pak area
    Europe (France, England, Germany)

They have to happen within a short peroid.

Just Indo-Pak nuclear war may not be enough....

"A new Government for the Whole world!"

    That's a recipe for disaster...
Do you know what humans make for power?
Do you know how the power could be distributed in this situation?

Power is not very good for humans... it blinds us...
When many years ago some guys tried to created a government without power they KNEW what they were doing...

Well... unfortunatly... they didn't apllied it by themselves... their ideas were applied by people that wanted power... and you can see the results...

    Very well put, Nelson.

As Lord Acton said, "All power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely".

TruthSeeker, that's EXACTLY why we need to etablish a NEW
    government for the whole world.

People don't want that shit they eating anymore.
Your recipe is actually the actual political administration.
For instance, look at United States Government (Believe me- others are not better). It doesn't give enough info that the public should and must to know (Abductions-for-Technology Grey Contract, September 11th, secret projects like "Montana" and so on) because the simple fact it wants its citizens to be blind because it doesn't want to lose its power. But they don't understand that their power is our power. We all human beings, damn it. That's why the time arrived to establish something *very* different.

In addition, the new global govt. should be based on new values.
I think humans are ready for that, but first we need to explain to the totally blinded people why the current recipe is BAD.

Peace, groove on (BTW- where is RipleOfDeath? I miss him...

No Gil, thats EXACTLY why we DON't need a centralised world governement. The shit you're talking about would simply have moved a bit further up the rungs of power and have more control than ever before.

Except, with one world government, there would be nobody powerful enough to do anything about it.

), I'm afraid you right about it, that the world is still not ready for it. But never lose any hope.
We all have a good potential to develop for a better future.
We just need to believe it.

    Hope for better days,
    Gil Weinstein.

If you read one of my posts you would have seen that each of the four "corners" of the Earth vote for a representitive, these FOUR people vote on what should happen. If there is a split vote then the entire world is alowed to vote making an odd number of votes to split the tie.

Another interresting idea I got from reading an Arthur C Clarke book was they randomly selected a person from the entire population, this person was the "leader".

We do not need a nuclear war, we need a revolution.

Yeah right. And I can just SEE how the Indonesian Rep (who would be voted in on sheer strength of numbers) would be SO sympathetic to Australians when taking issues up in the world government.

Imagine how the Americans amongst us would react if they found out their "Local Representative" was from Iran, and you'd see where I was coming from.

I do Gil.. I mean I really really try, but I broke my rose tinted glasses a few years back and I've seen nothing but humanity ever since.

Look the idea is not perfect.... You could get around that by having each 'country' only one vote each, the majority that that 'country' votes for would get one vote.

    That would make it fairer....

i read that there is a new world order already. A conspiracy theory that is the Bilderberg group? has anyone heard of it?

Yeh, i agree with what you say: Globalisation will form the new world order. The world run by corporate buisnesses instead of governments.
