How insane are we humans? We have no idea what's going on half the time and we actually think we can figure out the "meaning" and "purpose" of weird things like reality and existence. I mean, what're we trying to do? Since we evolved into "thinking" beings, I think we just think to keep boredom away. The more with think and philosophise, the more we argue about stupid things that actually have no relevance to our everyday existence. Argh.

    End of rant.

In general, humans have little tolerance for ambiguity.

Hmm, I ain't so sure ....but I think I disagree. I think humans actually revel in ambiguity. I think this website is a pretty good example of it, too.

I have to agree to some extent. I've often said that if, say, Africa were to sink beneath the waves of the ocean, we'd be horrified and angered ...but ONLY for a few minutes until the next newscast came up with some new story!

Remember being horrified at the tsunami in Indonesia ....how everyone claimed to be so stricken and horrified? They sent in a couple of dollars to make themselves feel good, then forgot about it.

And remember the hurricane and flooding in New Orleans? Americans claimed to be horrified, yet the entertainment expenditures for that week were no different to that of any of the weeks before or after it. Interesting, huh?

So what's on the list this week that we should all be horrified about? ...and that we'll forget about next week?

This web site is an example of people unwilling to view ideas "from the other side." Not everyone here this way, but a good number of them are. Cool skill is a classic example of this.

I think "smart" people are probably the worst at handling ambiguity. Though they can also be the best at handling it.

The average person enjoy's ambiguous ideas but cannot handle the amount of effort required to understand them, so they disregard them.

The "dumb" people could not care less about anything that is not right in front of them.

people are compelled to wonder on deeper meanings, it's out of curiosity,it's within human nature, wheter or wheter not philsophy is helpfull or not is quite cear within statistics, it helps with logical anylysis and critical thinking, so there are definatly benefits. A better question is wheter our notion of Gods exsistance, and our hope for somethign more and divine, proves his exsistance(ontological arguement) in which i will hold off gettign into ,till someone replies, because it's quite facinating.

Are you callin' me and my friends "dumb"??? If so, please explain why we should care about things that don't affect us (and our beer drinkin' time)?

Let's say that Africa sinks beneath the ocean tomorrow. So why should me and my buddies who live in Texas care about that?

Did I say "if you not care less about things right in front of you, then you are dumb?"

No... in fact, I said the converse. "If you are dumb, then you could not care less about the things not in front of you."

Anyway it's in general. There are exceptions.

Okay, good!! I feel better now ...plus I can stop loading up my guns. ...LOL!

But, tell me, what do you say about my Africa situation? Ain't got no comments for us dumbies? Hey, I'm moderately interested ...it'll give me somethin' to talk about while we're drinkin' beer, gettin' drunk and laughing.

    I don't buy this... but I'll pretend I do.

What does this have to do with ambiguity? Are you implying that the people in Africa are stupid? Or perhaps the more likely scenario is that because you cannot "see" Africa, you should not care about it?

In response the to last question, this is not what I meant by "see." I mean anything that can be experienced by the 5 senses and that it can be understood and assimilated by his 5 sense.

Like, if a dumb guy (again, in general) was presented with short paper on the systematic nature of the universe and he'll ignore it. Give him a TV and he'll get excited.

He'd probably not be interested in space travel because all his mind is capable of is understanding what's on Earth and he would not appreciate it . Space is out there and has nothing to do with life down here (as far as he is concerned, anyway).

I believe it all has to do with how someone processes and interprets information in the brain.
