It sounds like to me, these guys just did a bunch of MAOIs, AMT, 2C-B, 2C-T-7, 5-MeO-AMT, 5-MeO-DMT or some other relatively unknown drug. But a new one, capable of an epidemic y'all speak of, is kinda sketchy.

Ah very interesting. I now agree that this drug I came accross was probably just talked up. I think Clockwood is correct: If people want to put drugs in their bodies, just like suicide, it should be 100% their choice.

    i hear ya,
DMT is realllly interesting, it binds to similar receptors, such as the ?5-HTa2 receptor? and others really similar to LSD.
it's usually chemically made, i think.
anyway, i just wanted to talk about these blue mushrooms...
if you like mushrooms, you should try BLUE mushrooms, if you can find them.
i forget what the technical term for it is called.
anyway, there's this nobel prize scientist who studed shrooms, and examined blue shrooms; along with psilocin/pysilocybin, DMT is another naturally occuring substance in it.

it was funny, because we had this, and people thought it was laced lsd.
    thank god for pharmacology.

we tried salvia, since it's legal and all. we didn't get any of those crazy alien hallucinations. in fact, i think ours really sucked. it just gave us a buzz.
i conclude that we had shitty salvia.
anyway, from what i hear from friends, it knocks you the fuck out, but you get kinda giddy. it's short-lasting though.

but these drugs don't seem like a combination of meth and xtc to me...

It tried it. It didn't do much, like drinking 2 cups of coffee, but I did want more. Never got addicted.

just to specify, the term in context is usually dependence rather than addiction.
there are two types of dependence: physical and psychological.

physical dependence more or less the withdrawal symptoms. examples of withdrawal symptoms would be insomnia, irritabliity, lethargy, increased appetite, etc.

psychological dependence is, you're right, the level of compulsion for the user to repeat the drug use.

and to answer the addiction thing... i can't say i've seen a study stating instant addiction, nor have i learned or researched for it.
i CAN say, however, that instant addiction is possible... especially when the right external/internal factors are in place. i guess an example would be a bum on the street suffering from depression, has the genetic predisposition for addiction, and has terrible diarrhea... he could easily be a case for instant heroin addiction.

depression, he needs a source of bliss/happiness, heroins there so he goes for it. it's so good, he NEEDS more and more.

genetic predisposition to be addicted... pretty self-explanatory.
for specfication and on a side note, there's a gene in asians that helps them to metabolise nictoine slower, which allows them to quit cigarettes more easily than caucasians.

and i kicked in diarrhea, because opiates can help diarrhea, hence IMMODIUM which contains loperamide, i believe.

There are no race exclusive genes. I don't get addicted to nicotine either, I must have that gene, but my mother does not, shes addicted.

Part of my point is that this word addiction gets used too loosely. Just because you want something really bad does not mean you are addicted. Addiction is really just an extreme of the human condition if you ask me. Lots of people use food like a drug and feel withdrawal when they don't get it. Any habit that brings pleasure repeated over and over will be very hard to quit. I quit smoking but I can't quit biting my fingernails. I consider addiction when a person needs a substance that causes physical symtpoms in its absence. The term "psychological addiction" is meaningless psycho-babble. Just because you want something, no matter how badly, does not mean you are addicted. I am not addicted to biting my fingernails, people are not addicted to shopping. And there is no such thing as instant addiction. But it is true that some people seem to get addicted to somethings whereas others don't. I was never addicted to nicotine even though it is an addicitive substance so maybe some people can become instantly addicted.

    how can there not be?
for instance, the melanin in your skin?
    skin colour? that's gene exclusive.

    for the nicotine...
the gene isn't directly related to the matter of addiction, it's about metabolisation.
psychological and physical factors are related to each other when it comes to addiction.

Actually, brand new research places ecstasy (the actual name of the drug wasn't given, but I suspect that MDMA was meant as it is the original ecstasy, not that that's what you'll get when you buy it...) on a list of drugs that causes heart valve defects. Most of the drugs on the list are perfectly legal pharmaceuticals, two of which were the focus of the report derived from ergot and given to parkinson's patients.

The paper hasn't been published yet, I think. It should be coming out relatively soon though...

New England Journal of Medicine, I believe it was.

And then you go to sleep and voila! Addiction cured! It's a miracle, Praise Moloch!

    Edit:
    Anyway.
This thread is about 5 seconds away into turning into another 'race' thread.
    Boring.
Don't you people ever talk about anything else?
Capt. Scruffy is new here, so he can be forgiven, but the rest of you... find a new topic. Stop turning every fucking discussion into race.

You know, Invert, drug use is associated with bad teeth and bad teeth cause heart valve defects by causing bacterial endocarditis.

As far as I know ecstasy is the only recreational drug on the list. The rest are pharmaceuticals.
So, we're not talking about meth-mouth here.

    No need to do that.
Cat's out of the bag anyway.
If you stick around very long, you'll quickly notice a tendency in these jackals to voraciously devour anything having to do with race. They're all rabid anti-racists, don't you know.
    ...
Come to think of it... the racist clamor has died down of late... What happened?

I realize that you are not talking about meth-mouth, even if meth is closely related. Drug users tend to neglect basic maintenance. This includes users of pharmaceutical drugs. There may be an element of immune system suppression and alteration of the chemistry of the mouth involved, also. Indirectly, if the use of certain drugs hurts the teeth in any way, there will be an increased correlation between the use of that drug and and heart valve problems. The drug could also directly damage the heart valve, of course. The thing is, it isn't always that straightforward. You can definitely expect increased endocarditis in people who have meth mouth, also.

eh, i think that one would probably need a shitload of xtc to get that much teeth grinding to lead to cause endocarditis.

i think it'd be more accurate to say that long-term use of mdma fucks the brain up and its ability to keep proper maintenance to the heart, including heart valve function.

    Well, it's always a possibility.
Perhaps you could find out more about the team doing this research and send them a letter recommending they do some research on dental hygiene in their subjects.
I heard it on NPR. I didn't get any names or anything. Just that it would be in the New England Journal of Medicine. (I think that was the one.)

Dental caries are a source of bacteria that get into the system and damage the heart valves.
