If one make of car with less than a ten percent market share were to cause 70 percent of the fatalities, then certainly enough that make would be banned.

I HATE PIT BULLS!!! THEY SHOULD ALL BE ROUNDED UP AND PUT IN A GAS CHAMBER!!!

Last month some guy moved into the corner house at the foot of our street about a half-mile up from where I live. Anyone going in or out of our small community has to pass this house. He put's a beautiful plush coach on the front porch of his fenced in yard, but within a week it was torn to shreds. I thought this was hilarious. The next week the Pit Bull - No! I must correct wording here.... The next week "it" apparently got loose and chased alongside my car almost a mile down the major road leading out this corner house. Being a responsible person, I turned around. "It," of course, followed me back, and I went to the house and told the owner that "it" was lose; because I did not want "it" to get hit by another car coming in the opposite direction as it was running alongside mine. Again, I was amused, the owner appeared concerned, and I felt I did the right thing - else, I'd feel very guilty if "it" were to get run over by another car. The next week I noticed that the side of the "metal" fence had been mangled up and now had a three foot hole in it. "It" was nowhere in sight. Two more times "it" followed my vehicle as I exited our street, but this time I was too busy - having warned the owner already of the potential danger - and so I just quickly sped away. Today, I took my Norwegian Elkhound for her usually run in the forest. We drove a mile-and-a-half out down the said main road and then down a National Park forest road. I was unaware that "it" had followed my vehicle the entire way! As I let Kodi out for a run, "it" immediately ran up to Kodi and bit her in the hindquarters. Unlike the similar incident where a Pit Bull had taken a fist-sized chunk of meat out of my other Elkound's belly, this time there was only - should I say only???!!! - a bite with teeth marks about five inches wide on each side and "it" drew blood. Kodi yelped and cried and I told her to quickly get in my SUV. We then quickly drove home. "It" was in hot pursuit. I stopped at the corner house. As I got out of my SUV, "it" stood posed alongside, growling at me and ready to bite me too. I banged on the door, the guy answered, and I calmly told him that this was the forth time and that, "You have a vicious dog, it is lose, many children play on this street, many other people walk their dogs next to your house, and now I am certain that if they walk their dogs here, and your dog is lose, that "it" will attack there dog. All I am doing is telling you this." He replied, "This never happened before. Oh, This never happened before." That's it.

I really think I should have, at the very least, given "it" a swift kick in the side for preventive training, and I do not know why I didn't. Other people, I am sure, would have done a lot worse. Kodi is extremely gentle, shy and friendly; and I am sure this will have a lasting impact on her gregariously friendly disposition towards others that may now require a great deal of remedial care. In a responsible manner, I have notified the neighbors and their children about this "vicious" animal so as to warn them about this imminent danger. If anything like this happens again, or if I even hear about anything similar from the kids, I will immediately call Animal Control and call the County Sheriff. Yes, I am very upset. Thank you for reading my long post.

If pit bulls are banned, I fear that all the people who 'needed' them will have to get more and bigger SUVs to 'compensate' for their loss of 'compensation'!

I am not in the mood for anyone to try and tell me how "nice" their Pit Bull is when I am contemplating buying a gun for protection against all of them. It's ugly and looks like a killer and it is a potential killer, whether you know this or not, or whether you simply and ignorantly wish to live with it in a state of denial of this fact. I highly suggest you keep it out of my sight and very far away from my premises. Now is not the time, nor the place for such a comment or a picture to be posted, and to do so shows your extremely inconsiderate disposition of another's demise. These "things" are/were bred to fight and kill. This is a fact. And I could really give a shit how "nice" you merely "think" it is, when no matter what, it still has the inherent disposition, and the "living jaw" means to kill.

I own a small-size SUV because I need a 4-wheel drive for field work and sometimes sleep in the back. I drive it about twice a week. You gotta problem with that?

I highly suggest you keep it out of my sight and very far away from my premises. You're situation is exactly like the one described above where the owner will say, "This never happened before." Can you read?

Now is not the time, nor the place for such a comment or a picture to be posted, and to do so shows your extremely inconsiderate and insensitive attitude towards another's demise, peril and fear. These "things" are/were bred to fight and kill. This is a fact. Quite ironically, with my professional experience in handling wildlife, there is no fear in spending a night between two mountains with howling packs of wolves, and much less uncertainty and still no fear when accidently confronted by a Grizzly Bear, than there is with the unpredictable, always potentially deadly and lethal aggressive behavior of a Pit Bull.

You folks still do not realize that the problem is the owners of these vicious dogs, not the dog or the breed.

If you killed every so called Pit Bull in the world, these psychos would train some other breed to be vicious, getting breeders to help if need be. Dobermans, German Shepherds, and Mastiffs are very likely candidates.

Are you aware that "Pit Bull" is not a well defined term? A law which was actually enforced might end up killing off some harmless dogs and not getting some of the vicious ones.

Furthermore, There are a lot of other types of dogs which would be dangerous to children if allowed to run free. Not many children know how to act when they encounter a dog not controlled by the owner.

No responsible owner allows even a fairly docile dog to roam free.

BTW: I have never owned a Pit Bull and do not particularly like them. I prefer German Sheperds. I am sure that if I owned a pit bull, it would not be a vicious dog and it would not be allowed to roam free.

Which kills more people in the USA, guns, or Pit Bulls? Of course, your gun will never fall into the hands of a criminal, or be left unsecured for a single moment. And if it did harm anyone, what would be your defence? That you are usually so careful?

Well, i certainly don't think Pitbulls are bad dogs. They are highly intelligent for dogs, and i think anyone serious enough about their animals should they happen to like, should get one.

although, i think you should be required to get a license certifying you know how to take care of such a dog. this way, if an accident happens, or the owner doesn't have the proper credentials for his dog, it's clear to everyone the owner is at fault

    ROFL @ thread backfire.

These dogs - like firearms - are not the problem: just as the firearm owner is responsible for safe handling and storage, the dog owner is responsible for the training and constant monitoring of his pet. Banning will not solve the underlying problem... when will you people get it?

I swear, it's not rocket science.

pit bulls shouldent be banned, the dogs are very friendly they are already banned over hear in the uk. my friends own pitbulls (ilegaly) and they are awesome little dogs very friendly they would lick you to death rather than maul you, its just sometimes they can get pissed off like any animal,

it depends on the owner not the dog, the owner can train a pitbull to be a killing machine, or a loving family member, i can train any decent sized dog to kill people, i know dobermans, rockweilers, and mastifs that are more viscious than some pitbulls i know, it all depends on how the dog was raised,

    peace.

you might aswell say ban all dogs that are big enough to be trained to kill someone,

"fuck a dog, get a gun".

So are humans, in case you've forgotten. If you ban a species because it has the potential to kill, you'd need to ban humanity.
