Yes or rather like having a boxing match where you put a 300lbs shaved gorilla against a weasly little athsmatic who doesn't even belong on TV for his lack of any relevant views/pretense on camera.

But that's just how Fox News likes to stack it - they never have any supposed liberals on who anyone that works in the beltway has ever heard of - they may as well pay recovering cancer patients on and dope 'em up first just to really drive home the point how puny and feeble the liberals are.

Is this supposed to be an insult to my intelligence? Seriously, I'm asking. You would've made more sense if you responded, "Your mom!". Reminds me of Biff Tannon.

Does it? You do realize that a great number of conservatives happen to believe that creationism should be taught to my children and yours? No, not all, but most, especially the rank-and-file ones. This is also a facet of anti-intellectualism, an ideology you seem to be uncomfortably sympathetic to, and you can't just conveniently ignore it.

    Also, it's conservatism.

Ensuring everyone's rights are secure and respected is the same as subjugating everyone to the state? Oh the horror!

Is this analogous to Bush's now-expanded powers? The left wants the state to have all these sorts of powers over its people, correct? Powers similar to the ones the Bush administration now has, such as the ability to listen in on your phone conversations?

Just trying to figure out exactly what you mean.

Of course it does! Anti-intellectualists spare no one.

stoopid smart ppl, wat do they no????? amirite?????

Let's hear your personal accounts of the evil university trying to indoctrinate you to the evil left wing. Surely they are manifold.

    Athelwulf:

In essence: The only anti-intellectual here is you.

Thank you for correcting me. I detest typos.

Anyway: A great deal of conservatives are creationists? I would not say a "great deal". Rather, a great deal of "Americans" are creationists: Darwinian belief does not hold much sway, according to most polls, in America. ""God created human beings pretty much in their present form at one time within the last 10,000 years." (http://www.contrarianreview.com/darenot.html)

Moreover, I would not say conservatism is a bastion of anti-intellectualism. In fact, I don't see anti-intellectualism as part of America at this time: There are no more "know nothing" parties. The anti-Darwinism is more about our sorry state of public education than anything else, which is brought about by our crap teachers' unions.

Which Liberal policies have done this?

The government has always had said ability. The difference now is the avenue for gaining such access. The "Patriot Act" has done practically nothing.

Neo-conservatism originated with a Political Science professor at the University of Chicago, Leo Strauss.

    More than it's worth

Anyone read Loewen's Lies My Teacher Told Me?

Before complaining about social studies educations and leftism, consider that one of the reasons history has such a low reputation among American students is that it's all fabricated to suit patriots and traditionalists. Nobody ever had to publish a "Dude Edition" of a textbook to suit California's liberal fancies, but there have been "Lone Star Edition" textbooks with the already jingoistic history dazzled up even more to suit conservative aspects of Texan culture.

Part of the visibility of leftist tendencies in universities is the absolute shock that comes when an American high school graduate takes an American history class in college and discovers that everything hitherto learned about the U.S. is wrong.

Additionally, the visibility of leftist tendencies is an exaggeration. Think about it: even when the factual record informs "right" or "conservative" people otherwise, it's still a liberal conspiracy of some kind. Evolution, homosexuality, the U.S. Constitution; that something opposes the worldview of conservatives makes it somehow "liberal". So a tremendous portion of the perceived liberal wave is, in fact, nature and history themselves.

Really. I promise. It's not a leftist conspiracy that some people think poorly of Christopher Columbus. We have the details in his own hand! Primary sources. Original histories. Not much room for doubt. Yet somehow this is perceived as a "liberal" issue.

By imagining a greater burden than exists, by projecting nine-headed cactus demons onto every wall, the conservatives seek to build an illusion to justify their own behavior against. If they promote a "fight fire with fire" attitude, for instance, they must first wag the dog and convince people there's fire in the first place.

Hmm. Well, socialist I might be, but not blind. I've been at three universities in my time and I noticed that it was exceedingly difficult to be a conservative (at least openly) at two of them. This might be a biology thing specifically; but we do ourselves and even our society an injustice by censoring them.

    Tiassa:

You assume the accuracy of the "politically correct" modern interpretations of history. As does books such as "Everything my Teacher Taught me is Wrong".

It's an appeal to authority to attack appeals to authority.

As a science major, I was spared much of the indoctrination that takes place on our college campuses.

Still, my Western Civ prof was a communist. I regarded everything he said as propaganda.

My purpose in college was to get into graduate school. I wanted to be a doctor, so I didn't bother to argue with the guy or any other leftwing prof. I gave the answers he wanted, got my A, and moved on.

I did have a lot of fun arguing with various left wing activists at IU. (The one's who couldn't fuck me over by giving me a bad grade)

I had the misfortune of being placed at Collins LLC. It was basically a "hippie" dorm. People there thought they were still in the sixties (it was actually the eighties). I was there during Bush SR's election and put a giant Bush poster in my dorm window to antagonize the hippies. I also got in arguments every time I went to the cafeteria.

So personally, it wasn't that bad. I avoided trouble with left wing profs to keep my GPA up, and took out my frustrations on mush headed leftwing students.

But the sad thing is that so many students just accept what these profs say as gospel truth.

Oh my. Ever consider the possibility that you may have started noticing "indoctrination" efforts directed at you a couple of years too late?

Any institution that attemps to educate young people is going to appear liberal, or leftwing, to conservative Americans. One reason it's hard to be a conservative on a campus is that American conservatism is rife with ignorance and reflexive bigotries, and resents having that pointed out by intellectual elites. Learn anything from a communist? Not a chance. So a college is kind of an alien environment, being based on intellectual growth.

You have to change, to grow.

The phrase "not being able to see the forest for the trees" or "trees for the forest" or "either forest or trees", does not relate back to self-analysis as you suggest. Rather, the phrase relates to being unable to see the whole or part of an issue, or even the issue at all.

Well then, let us pretend I can't "Dutch see the forest for the trees". Do elaborate where conservatism is as claimed?
