Let me get this straight, You absolutely hate the films, yet you've seen all three, and from your "whenever I see'm", multiple times?

I'm sorry, but if I hated the first movie of a series, I would have never wasted my time watching the sequels even once.

For example, I read Dune and didn't particularly care for it, so I never read the rest of the books in the series or re-read the first.


Besides that, what is the purpose of ragging on about how much you hate the movies? I mean, everyone is entitled to an opinion, but Who cares?. After all, a lot of people do like the movies. ( Or is it that which bothers you, the fact the these movies are widely popular? Which brings up the question: Why should you care?)

I'm not sure they are widely popular, perhaps this populatiry you speak of stems from the hate those who have seen them might have?

In regards to my seeing of the films, I saw LOTR's 1 and didn't see the others for a very long time, it was only when they were on TNT that I watched them, it was more of a joke to me than entertainment.

As for HP I saw that because my curiousity got the best of me, I had HBO and it was on there free so why not, I was bored.. I wasn't as bored watching them though. They do all suck terribly though, kill them!

Lighten up. I get the feeling you would have a more favorable opinion of these stories if the dark/evil side would have been victorious in the end.

There's no comparison if you consider the originality of LOTR. The Harry Potter stuff is for kids and got many of them reading, which probably makes them better from that point of view.

Sorry Mountainhare but I LOVED all the LOTR books and all 3 films. Great, expansive rich story with great characters, special effects, score, everything. I loved it.

 

Now I get who you are. All I needed to know.

 

I assume this question refers to the movies.

I can't justify myself, but I innately hate Harry Potter and am sickened by it's success.

What a hero that guy is.

I used to think LOTR sucked too, not as much as HP, but still a huge disappointment. I have the fellowship of the ring on DVD and it is one of the movies I sometimes watch when I go to sleep. I started thinking it is a good movie lately, about the same time I started taking mood enhancers.

 

Yet it is entertaining when little kiddies are drinking their pumpkin juice?

On another note, I understand why people don't like the LOTR books. I probably would hate them as an adult. I've read people saying, and believe, that LOTR laid the frame work for almost all of the modern fantasy genre. I think it is at its best as a first taste of big fantasy. Now a days the audience is different, since fantasy is popular and there are all sorts of ways to expose yourself to lots of it before you get to LoTR, unlike in the 1920s or whenever. That doesn't seem like too long of a time, maybe, but I think LoTR just got cliche and familiar.

 

Tolkien didn't copy anyone; everyone else copied Tolkien.

 

There are not whole chapters on drinking pumpkin juice in Harry Potter books.

no he didnt 'copy' anybody directly, but he was heavily influenced by all kinds of mythology, folk lore and legends among many many civilisations,

but lhe did lay down the mainstream foundations for fantasy, but all of his creations were already in ancient folk lore and legends/storys. he just brought them all to life in an epic tome combined together in one great adventure,


tolkeins ideas stemmed heavily from religion and mythology, i believe he even based the elven tounge and written language on finnish if im not mistaken,

The books are both great. The LOTR movies are great. I liked the harry potter movies 3 onwards, but 1 and 2 were lame. I don't see how you people even can dislike them. Boring? I didn't know so many people here were tasteless...
