I have the PC version of ff7, but for some strange reason it will always crash to the desktop in the first 7 minutes. I can't even make it to the first frickin' save point.

God its Just so fun, twirling around and killing shit and pushing them off high places. The multiplayer is awesome. Probably the most fun game, though not the best game I've ever played.

I love doing the choke move and holding people over cliffs. FUN. I've got the dismemberment mod, so SLICE (Head rolls off). Its cool

 

1.5 gigs of RAM ain't gonna do ya jack amount of good. Cuz I can I tell you if you are using that system for games, you're not going to be using that much.

RAM doesn't do you any good unless it is being used. I would not suspect you are using that machine for any intensive work like digital video editting either, because it is running at Pentium 2. If you're on a P2 I wouldn't imagine you are using an OS stable enough to allow for alot of minimizing.

On top of that, P2 motherboards only support tradtional SDRAM, so you're getting PC133, 168-pin at best. Kind of seems like a waste of money IMO. Oh, in case you are interested, I think they are making DIMM sticks in increments of 1GB a piece now (not sure, but I believe so)

People worry too much about RAM. If you have an OS that does not leak memory (like Linux or Windows 2000), you don't really need to worry about it that much. 512 should be more than enough in that case (for gaming and home use anyway, servers and workstation users might want to go for the max).

If you have an OS that leaks memory like Windows 98, best thing to do is get a cache purging program.

 

I did not like FF7 that much. Best part about it was the music IMO

 

True computer users and anyone who investigates the market and technical aspects of products don't buy brand computers.

With brand computers (like dell, gateway, compaq, etc....) you get a "custom" motherboard, and generally a hunk of junk harddrive that has the tendency to crash.

They cater to people who only want the latest and greatest technology. So when computer illiterate people hear the word "Pentium 4" on their TV advertisement commercials, they think "this is good stuff, the latest Pentium" Being illiterate as they are, they don't know the P4's perform like trash. When computer idiots hear the word "Intel", they tend to get excited (so the companies try to conceal the latter word Celeron by whispering it)

Now they speak of free CD burners now that more home user computer idiots have found out about making CDs. So they throw in the cheapest, lowest speed, generic, OEM burner.

They strip these things down by loading them with a minimal amount of RAM, 5400 RPM harddrives, integrated video, and things like that. That's how they are able to sell them for so cheap.

But that's what these kinds of PCs are good for, desktop applications (using MS Word to do your taxes, and sending chain e-mails to relatives), because as far as I am aware, only a computer idiot would buy one.

 

I've got all that RAM for future games. I got them in the massive price slump a few months a go.
I'm not sure if its a PII though. I haven't really cheacked. I didn't want to be called a liar saying that I've got a descent proscessor and me finding out I haven't.

I'm planning on getting an AMD Athlon 1700.

I've got a pretty new muthaboard with three RAM slots and an AGP one. Its pretty descent.

 

The only problem lies in if you are getting traditional SDRAM, rather than DDR RAM (double data rate). DDR RAM (184 pin) will not fit in slots made for SDRAM (also the motherboard will not be compatible with it).

If you have a board that is compatible with DDR, great. But if you are buying traditional RAM, it may not work (or work almost twice as slowly) with a motherboard designed for an Athlon XP 1700+

You can check your DirectX info, your system properties, or BIOS settings to see what processor you have.

How much actually faster DDR (of any kind, but it your system memory, FSB, VRAM, etc....) will run is dependant on different factors, such as your power supply, processor, etc.... It could be anywhere from merely 20% faster, all the way up to 90% faster (almost literally twice as fast - 1/5 and 9/10 respectively - the true physical clock speed is the same, but the transfer rate can be almost twice as fast as they found a way to increase the voltage, and literally manipulate the way the electricity flows along the copper wires and plastic to get it to run twice as fast).
