Portable USB HD

I had a few problems with my home PC, needless to say I totally destroyed it (around 1 month ago). I use the one here at work for playing now, recently I wanted to organize my collection of music, etc...

Anyways I bought a 4 GB flash drive which kept failing miserably, infact it sucked so bad it would lock up then eject itself! Now I went off an got pissed, so I spent much 85 bucks on a portable HD. It's small, compact, and kinda cool... the crummy thing about it is this.. it's got a shiney surface so fingerprints stick like glue, also it's a plastic surface that shines so scratches come easily I suppose...

Anyways... I sorted my stuff on it, it's all good, so like when I take this thing home to my dads Mac G5 will it be able to read it? I'm not sure what parition it uses but I seem to recall portable HD's can't be read universally, it's gotta be formatted for the OS... so will it not recognize my HD if i take it home? What'l happen stryder?

It'll be fine.

Most likely, unless you've formatted it, it'll be FAT32. OSX/os9 or whatever's on your Dad's G5 should recognise it straight up.

You don't need to use any software to transfer files to and from the device, or a driver for it, do you?

You may be right, the box it came with said it was OS X compatible, etc... probably is fat32...

The hardware might be OSx compatible but if you formated the disk as NTFS OSX might not be able to mount the volume anyway.
