I'm sorry I havent time to read though the entire thing...whats meant by tethering..you mean 'leg bands'?

dontbe silly, the labour goverment have always had the working man in mind, the conservatives are there for the rich man and no one else

Rather few people are in prison for murder or rape -- as a proportion of the total. Take a look though your local paper for the people who are actually landing up in prison (fraudsters, dangerous drivers, petty criminals, drug pushers, people who have got into fights, etc).

How many more millions are you prepared to spend on prisons? Personally, I would have preferred to see between 3000 and 5000 of Britain's present prison population hanged. The rest I wish to confine as inexpensively as possible. If you wish to spend more, I think you should explain which taxes you would increase, which areas of public spending you would cut, and why the money would be better spent on prisons than anything else.

Let's try to reduce public spending to no more than one-third of GNP -- it seems to be a recipe for a successful and dynamic economy.

 

for the sake of my kids i want the drug pushes locked up, i dont care how much it all costs, what shall we do with these criminals? oh dear mr so and so you have been caught selling drugs to children, never mind have a free holiday to a self esteem building camp, that shit doesnt work.

but what he did for the country was brilliant, what people need to remember is that once a legistation is put through by the conservatives the new goverment then has to see it through

conservatives were single handidly responsible for killing the welsh mining communitys, and bringing in the council tax what the hell was that about.

also the conservatives want the national ID card bought in quickly!!!

Leaving aside all other considerations, why do you insist on confining them by perimeter rather than by radius?

 

because if they are are in prsions we can watch them and make sure they dont break the law, if they are free before they're time is up then they might re offend

 

Well, I am not proposing that they should be free. Imagine a drug pusher among, say, a score of convicts of a variety of crimes tethered at a hostel. There's CCTV monitoring (cheap) but no guards (expensive). Even if they were free to have visitors, any person prepared to resupply the pusher under such conditions would be taking one helluva risk. I think it's fair to say the pusher would be rendered inactive. He would certainly be away from school gates, places of entertainment and that little corner of the town that the junkies know to go to for their fix.

If he were a big wheel on the drug scene, I admit that there would be a significant rescue danger, and he would be among that fraction needing the highest security, probably in prison.

 

This "tethering" idea is ludacris. A simplier solution would be one I saw in a Rutger Hauer movie. Attach explosive rings around the convicts neck. If they go outside the approved area, boom. Instant decapitation. Same thing happens if they tamper with the device.

An even simplier solution would be go to a system of corporal punishment and increased execution. All crimes punishable by being stripped naked in public and whipped or execution. Prisons only used for those awaiting punishment or judgement. They could even show the whipping on pay per view!

 

Pass the prisoners over to the labs first then get rid of prisons. Or even better rename prisons as human guinea pig containment instead.

 

What does the guy and a drill and him needing a hole to be drilled have to do with prisons?

What we need to take the story the other direction. Selling the guy something more useful?

Only punish the violent offenders. Give warnings to the men fighting each other. Give tickets to people caught with drugs. Ship the murderers and rapists to a deserted island or you could just kill him. Your choice.

 

Yeah because everyone in prison is a serial killer. They kill and rape for no reason at all. They love it and that's why they do it.

You have watched too many Hollywood flicks. I believe 25% of the people in the prison system is from the result of them getting caught with weed. A plant!

So the reckless driver who kills your kid, the conman who takes grannie's lifesavings, the creep who peddles kiddie-porn, the fraudster who hijacks relief funds, the pimp, the racketeer who sells dangerous fake pharmaceuticals, the guy who deals crack . . . etc . . . just get a "ticket" or a warning?
