Fewer starches so that cuts out pasta and potatoes and breads.
Sweets are gonna have to be sugar free now.

thats ok, because i know what we are up against now, and its not life threatening, and i am coping well with it, (not has well has he is.....he's being a trooper) like SAM said when i told her...it diesnt seem fair, not on top of his ADHD aswell, but i will still do my best for him, NO matter what it is!!

I have it. You don't need to keep him from having sweets to, unless he is a candy eating machine or something.

I got it when I was young as well, also with a overworried mom. If he went through the same experience that I did, which is typical, and lost weight before getting diagnosed by vomiting then he's probably going to be extra hungry while he regains that weight. My mom tried to stop me eating extra "for my own good", forgetting that I had lost 30 pounds. I advise you to let him eat what he wants as soon as you have figured out the right amount of insulin to give for certain carbohydrates, he is probably going to be very hungry.

Why not ask these questions to your own doctor instead of people here who are not qualified to give you expert advice?

maybe she wanted more than a clinical answer. Something from people who had lived it or others Moms who had dealt with it.

I only wanted to give her my opinion of what she should do first. If she wants others advice then that's fine but how many people here have this same problem?

I believe that every disease is nutrition related,or rather lack of proper nutrition,so if parents dont eat right, healthy foods, then children will not be healthy, disease resistant either.
get him hooked on natural sweets, fruits etc, that way at least he'll get plenty of vitamins, minerals that everybody needs, but unfortunately most people lack in their diets.

I myself was diagnosed as hypoglycemic when I was 17, so keeping a strict diet I unfortunately know all too well about. Especially considering I don't, and thus feel horrible side effects. =/

But, if i could make a suggestion, you could visit this website. - www.giindex.com

As far as keeping him away from sweets, I might suggest looking for some healthy alternative sweet foods or candy, and make the change gradual.

Good luck, when I was 7 someone had to fight me for my candy. I loved my candy...I miss, my candy.
