If machines reach thinking ability, will the intelligence be artificial?

i think "artifical intellegence" means un-organic thinking like a robot isn't made of flesh it is made of computer chips and metal so it is artifical. Same goes with its thinking.

Aren't robots made by humans now?

Yeah, I know. Wasn't really asking. Just a cool thing/question I read once. Point(s) to Ponder, as it were.
Don't remember where I read it, Some Sci-Fi book.

Thx tho, 'preciate it. Your answer was in earnest.

The statement "Machines will take over the world". They already have. Without them the civilization will stop and everybody will go back to the stone age.

Think about machines like Power Plants, Automobiles, Internet, Computers, Beer making machineries etc....

Now if you are thinking to interact via voice...and I Robot type robots, wait 30 years.

Personally I prefered John Carpenter's take on dealing with Advanced weapons of the future back in 1974 with Dark Star.

Imagine a bomb advanced enough to become depressed about it's existence and want to detonate itself, however everybody on-board a spaceship really doesn't want that to happen so they try their best to talk it down from committing suicide (even though it's technically what the bomb is suppose to do).

Re: Machines Will Take Over The World!

As Kmguru suggests, the world already has been taken over by machines.

You could suggest perhaps people should be fearful, however the Luddite movement has long since past with it's concerns over how machines could undermine the jobs of the poor and starving.

It is likely that the future will entail us all having robots in our homes doing remedial jobs that we don't want to do, in fact they've been threatening us with that for years, you could probably find some decent classic oldies of what life will be like in the future on you tube (circa 1949)

Technically everytime you travel by aeroplane you already are in their hands (along with the pilot as a backup and no I don't mean 'Aeroplanes' inflatable pilot.)

There is a rather silly bloke Prof. Warwick (?) is seemingly intent on attempting to turn himself into a walking Robot..so far he can open doors without touching them...why this is seen as an advance is anyones guess.

Someone replied that its useful for Wheelchair users...it might be a better solution simply to give better access to those in wheelchairs or handicapped in some way rather than implant them with microchips.

    Prof. Kevin Warwick?..

...anyways his ideas already proving useful...no need for an ID card his microchips are being put to typically humanitarian usage..Big Brother Science rules!

    Never, Never....
Just tell them to do what they can now. There is no guaranty for my life after 30 years. I don't know what happens next minute.
I use machines but I don't become a slave to them, i treat them as tools.

artificial intelligence. the word itself is wrong, That intelligence belongs to me. I made them. How can it be Artificial .

"The Small Unmanned Ground Vehicle (SUGV) is a portable, reconnaissance and tactical robot that can enter and secure areas that are either inaccessible or too dangerous for humans."

The scariest thing is iRobot was given a $32 million dollar contract by the military to develop these. How safe that sounds. The people that couldn't make a vacuum cleaner are now entrusted to make kill-bots (which is what I assume is further down the line). Thankfully there are other people in the team, like Boeing.

That was the idea in 2004, I wonder if they've made any progress.
