I've been told and i've noticed that individual responsibility is lessened when the individual is in a group. I would intervene, but I'm a shy person, so it'd have to be pretty apparent.

 

Random couple fight? Why intervene? Statistically, it won't come to blows... even less likely in a public setting.

A group of thugs beating on someone else? Why intervene? You're just asking to be next. Unless there's a fairly good chance you can help without harming yourself in the process, call the police.

I'm not trying to rationalize the "bystander" effect, but there are good reasons people try not to get involved in fights. I've seen good samaritans get seriously injured for no other reason than asking people to stop fighting or beating on each other.

Ultimately, it depends on the situation. You have to know when to intervene and when to simply call the 5-0...

 

If two drunks are fighting just let them alone and call the police because if

you try to stop them you will get hurt. They have no threshold to pain when

they are drunk so they don't care what happens to them. I avoid bars like

the plague.

 

If i sensed a situation going wrong, or if i saw someone being attacked, i would ALWAYS intervene.

 

yes i would intervene because i have already done it. We allow people to be kicked and punched then we are has bad as the people doing it,
