Moved into a new house. I want lots of pretty plants. I bought a ficus a few weeks ago and now all the leaves have fell off and it is so ugly. What am I doing wrong. Too much water maybe? It doesn't seem to be drinking the water. Can I save it. Anyone? I do not have a green thumb. Help!
They don't like overwatering, so that's one possibility. Also, they like lot's of light. And avoiding cold drafts is probably a good idea. Since this happened after a recent move, you may have thermally shocked it during the move.
Ficus lose their leaves whenever they are stressed, such as with moving. Give it time, it will recover. This phenomenon is well known.
Never ever plant a ficus near a septic tank, sewer lines, water lines driveways or houses because their root systems are one of the most aggressive and strongest things on earth and can tear into cement, pipes and walls very quickly. You have beem forewarned.
Bring it back to the plant nursery. I was probably dead when you bought it. Shop Plants can look very healthy and still be incapable of growing.

Just don't move it. It loses it's leaves even if you move it to another location in the house. They don't do well outside in temperate areas, they are tropical.
Don't tell me the t's are starting to pack up. b's (press with a good down press) and v's (press with a very hard down press) are bad enough. My machine is an E-system, but this manufacturer probably changes its name every year. It was cheap.
Get a new pot larger than the one you have and repot it. Discard the old soil, it may be contaminated. Thats what I did when my ficus started dying after I moved (lost almost all its leaves); I split it and repotted it in two pots, its doing well now.
I don't know where you live, but in the U.S. they're popular as indoor plants. That suggests that they don't thrive on what they would get more of outdoors, such as water, temperature changes and solar-spectrum light.
I had a beautiful ficus tree...then my cats took to using it for their litter box...piss killed it dead. Damn felines.
