a few things crop up and my opinion may change

    - fear that if there is some kind of egyptian mythology afterlife and i don't have my organs im pretty screwed/god might send me to hell.
    - i'm a fairly common blood type (bad excuse i know but lets not pretend to be mrs good two shoes and actually be humans)
    - I think that my family deserve to be able to cremate me/bury me without being mutilated

ditto. My family can have a memorial service if they feel its necessary. Don't need remains for that.

I don't because I'm concerned that someone devious might just get greedy

enough to take my organs away from me when I really have no need to die

as yet. If I were to go into the hospital after an accident and was knocked

out, what's to prevent them from telling everyone I just died and steal my

organs to sell them on the black market? Ever see the movie Coma?

technically im an organ donor, but the way the law works around here they need consent from my next of kin before they can do anything, so if they want to save any of my organs they pretty much need to have my parents waiting at the hospital.

You can remove organs without mutilating the person.

Also, you say you'd want to keep your organs in case they are needed in a potential afterlife, yet you think your family should have the option to cremate you?

No, I let my family decide on that one.

so you think they will let you die on purpose? My husband thinks the same think, mainly because his Mom did too.
Once he's dead, its my decision, not his, isn't it??

Not a donor. If I was a donor, certain close relatives would generally feel like my burial site would be stuck in limbo absentia. It makes sense to me. Why go to a graveyard to pray or pay respects at a site when my cadaver is actually over at XYZ University for a gross anatomy class. Don't think that all "donors" save lives by facilitating organ transplants, you know. Some are just for looks, others for practice.

If your just donate your heart or corneas, they would still have a body to bury.

True. But to those family members, it wouldn't be all of me.

To be honest I haven't given much thought to it. I hope I am a long way off from death.

It just takes one drunk driver.
Usually when you die at an old age, there isn't much use for your organs. Just need your body for medical school practice.

I know how you mean. My sentiments too. In a detached way I feel I should be a donor, but I cannot stomach the idea of someone hacking me up and taking my organs after I die.
