i have only lived in one country - U.S, so it is hard to say. i will be learning French soon to go to France to be closer to where my ancestors originated, somewhere probably south.
Um.....Beirut....'nuff said......Damascus......'nuff said Mediteranean, I should've said, Mediterranean is the best place to live. Athens, Rome, Cairo, Beirut, Jerusalem, Damascus What more do you need?
For the record, there is no such thing as "Lebanese Cuisine", Lebanese food is Syrian food because that food was eaten long ago by Syrians, when there was no Lebanon Do not credit them that. You love Syrian cuisine? Of course! Homos, Taboulli, Kebab...all delicious foods
Maybe I'll come over someday and we'll go get some? My mistake on not knowing, thanks for the info :]
Whose food are these? Seish Kabob, Yuro, Baklava (Spelling). I always get them at a Greek take out place. But my friend from Cyprus told me that it is Cyprus/Turkey food. He said Greek food taste terrible with grape leaves and rice stuff...
Baklava is a Turkish dessert. Oh, and grape leaves with rice are to die for. Especially covered in yogurt. Oh, and a big tall glass of ayran. mmm....
Sheesh kebob So, Turkish Yuro no idea, never heard of it Baklava Also Turkish So is Tandoor, Pilaf, Koftas, etc http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turkish_cuisine
Should have also contributed to the topic at hand: Canada is by far the best place in the world to live.
Something about how rich we are, how bounteous our opportunities are, how low our crime rates are, how well our living conditions are, and how much respect we have earned internationally...
This thread just made me really hungry. Kofta, grape leaves, homous, tabouli. ah! There's this Egyptian soup my mom makes, Melokiyah. omgodness. For the sumer I worked at an Egyptian restaurant. So much goodness. But as a country, not a place you want to live. My parents grew up in Egypt, and lived most of their lives there. Coming to Canada for them was like leaving hell and coming to heaven, despite the fact they lived privileged lives that few, even here live. For culture, ya great place, other stuff, not so much.
Are they Egyptian citizens? Anyway, the Government is...touchy. Lack of freedom. Corruption in authority. Cleanliness of the cities. Highly class oriented-rich get beaten on(mind you not actually beaten...just abused..)when they don't stick to their places, poor are looked down on. A million little things.
crazyfreespirit They're Egyptians who settled here (lived in Egypt for at least 45 years). Thanks for your answer, though. I'll have to ask them next time I see them.
Pretty shitty. The government sort of screws them. Its basically like this: you can be as native as you want, and not pay taxes, but you have to live on a reserve OR you can basically forgo you native status, and reap the benefits of being a "normal" Canadian citizen. Its really disgusting actually, how they're treated. Not to say the majority speak up for themselves, the government basically pays them enough to live on so they keep quiet. If I had any complaints about Canada, the situation with the first nations would be it. One thing I forgot to mention in my spiel about Egypt. Basically, a lot of the situation there is fairly similar to Mexico, except Egypt's somewhat better.
What's wrong with your description of the treatment of Natives? I know tons of Natives who find nothing wrong with this system.
no problemPlease Register or Log in to view the hidden image! That's interesting though. Of course things may have gotten better, it been 20 years since my parents left. When they were growing up there was war and turmoil with Israel, so that kind of strengthened their wish to leave in the future. That situation at least is better now, as are a lot of other things, so that might be why they like it.
Eh, and I know tons that don't. I guess that's why its an issue lol. They can't decide if they're down with it or not. I forget the details, but I did some research on it once. I remember they were giving very little room, where you had a choice of honoring your heritage, and living a below average lifestyle, or give up your culture and background to a great extent, and "rights" as a first nations citizen, to live as any other Canadaian. Its not set up very fairly. Of course this may have changed, or I may be wrong, to be honest, like I said, I don't remember details, though I know the gist of it is right. I'd look stuff up, but I've been doing research all day. I need a break lol.
