Last night I went to a 40 th birthday, a mask party, a hot summers night, new & old friends from youth to remember the past with, a Duke box mixed bag of new sounds & nostalgia, dancing, sushi, drinking and celebrating our existence together. The drink flowed mainly champers & beer,my pregnant wife pulled the plug on proceedings ,rightly citing ankle swelling and fatigue after midnight I found a 'traveller' (horrible vodka sweet cocktail)for the ride home.

Today mildly hungover, the dog peed on the carpet & nibbled my kayak rudder, wife off shopping and I am considering another beer;its after midday.Should I or shouldnt I ?

    What are your experiences?

If you think you can handle it, then by all means go for it.

Personally, I can't even stomach the smell of alcohol the next morning. For me, drinking it that soon is out of the question, until at least late afternoon (depending on how much I had the night before).

The exception to that was when a bunch of us went up to Canada (lower drinking age than the U.S.) and spent the whole weekend drunk (several beers with every meal of the day, and hard liqour at night). That's not something I'm likely to do again, because I felt so horrible after it.

I was a bartender for five years and I had, what I believed, was the best hang-over cure:

An aspirine, a half glass of red-wine mixed with half a can of coke (chilled thoroughly) and a dash of Angostura bitters.

Also, pancakes + maple syrup and a side of bacon works well too. So does a Big Buford or Sourdough Jack.

Hair of the dog works with mild hangovers.
In my experiences, whenever I tried to drink when I had a REAL hangover, it only induced [more] vomiting and made me feel worse for longer periods of time.

Unfortunately, the only instant hangover cure I know is highly illegal, but it works shockingly well. If a person were to strictly reserve this substance for use during emergencies, I would actually call this it's only legitimate medicinal purpose outside the context of being a mild anesthetic.

Acetaminophen takes about 45 minutes to an hour to kick in, but it will eliminate the headache and nausea. The drawback is that it's supposedly extremely bad for your liver.

I've never tried it, but I have heard drinking "pedilite" is good for a hangover. Although, you could probably make your own with water, and a little suger and salt.

I found as I get older, I get hangovers more easily. I usually go with water, aspirin and tums before bed, if I'm not too drunk to remember, or in the morning..if I did.

The "hair of the dog" thing is just something I can't do...I couldn't even think about drinking when I'm hungover...just the thought makes me sick.

Hair of the dog works for me.

Except the red wine dog. Evil bite, bad dog.

I just don't drink alcoholic beverages in the AM or whenever I get up after a celebratory evening out. I find sleep and a good breakfast is the best way to approach a new day.

Empirical success of 'Hair of the dog'

    Thanks all for your experiences,

I dont condone this merry behavior regularly, but ya gotta live in the moment thus, after midday on Sunday I drank 2 light beers then 1 pot of green tea, went for a walk with missus & dog around a lake and about then had 200 ml of red wine for dinner. Finally slept a good 8 hours & presto feel great tonight.
Now back to the serious business of SciForums & its eclectic erudite and somewhat eccentric patrons,

    Cheers
