They're just words. But then very few things upset me. Although, if you called me a nice person, I might get a bit upset, hehe. For me the word is very 'primal' sounding - the 2 middle letters have a somewhat aggressive, 'ngh!' kind of sound. Like a Stone Age grunt.
I don't agree that using swear words means you have a lousy command of language. I can think of quite a few words for excrement (faeces, manure, ordure, dung, etc.) but they don't have the same power as 'shit!'.

The word 'cunt' like 'vagina' are words. By reacting in a particular way to a 'demeaning' word you hand your power straight to the speaker (if it is not yourself speaking it). It is no co-incidence that black people and gay people adopted usage of the words 'nigger' and 'queer'. In doing so they put two fingers up to those who would use language to shackle and disempower. In other words; yes 'I'm a nigger' yes 'I'm a queer' so fucking what get over yourself! There are people out there who wouldn't say 'dick' to a 'penis' who would happily beat the shit out of their wives and children. So 'cunts away' I say. Possession of one makes you a mighty powerful creature.
Exactly. There's nothing inherently disrespectful about a word - it's just a sound. Let it upset you and you yourself give it power.

I don't think so.. I might call a woman names if she did something awful to me. If I lived in a English speaking country I might or might not use the word cunt. But I usually don't resort to these kind of words though.
Nobody has ever called me that. I have heard Neitzche say it a couple times when he got mad at something or someone other then me. I have always hit him in the arm or whatever, and told him DON"T USE the C word around me. I HATE IT.

I had an asshole period in high school where I used cunt liberally. Because of that, the word lost its insulting ability amongst people I was with and became much less offensive. We used it as freely as we used the word fuck.
My kids would not be using either of those words freely! (Around me anyway) I think it's terrible that teenagers and adults have to talk trash, or use swear words every second word. I guess that is what this world is coming to though. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Me either. Why isn't dick or cock up there on the offensive word ladder with cunt. I remember LBC had a segement debating why the word is so offensive, and one caller suggested the reason why the word is seen to be so offensive is result of society's insecurities and uneasiness regarding female sexuality.
It'll lose it's offensiveness with time, just like every other "obscene" word. People will hold it in the same plateau as bitch or whore.
