Pay Pal Security : How safe is it ?

I have done some business with Pay pal, but its been years now, since i used it ... Recently i had to setup an account b/c i need to help a guy out in setting up something.

My questions are

1.)How safe is it ? (I mean one company keeping my info ... etc.)
2.) Compare that with Google checkout ?

well its farely safe, I used it...but they got ties to ebay. So if your business goes down with ebay, they will pull you down. =(

Actually, day before yesterday (I think), they were showing something on CNBC, a professional Hacker who worked for some CSC corporation, was showing how easy it was to get PayPal and Ebay account related Information with some simple (and yet intuitive) Google Searching.

He was showing a list of people (excel file) with their SSN, Names account ids for Paypal searched through google.

I've never had any issues using PayPal, I think you just have to be careful and make sure you don't end up on a fake website set up to look like PayPal.
