Why do you think I don't eat Chinese food. Do you ever know what you are really eating?

just leave a trail of cheese leading out the door, preferably ending at a cheese shop and the rat will never come back. Everyone knows they like cheese.

It's just a rat, I would leave it be. I stayed at a place that had rats (old country house) but kept all stuff edible sealed or in hard to access cupboards and had NO problems. They never bothered anyone. Seen them round the grounds but thats was about it. Just don't leave food out etc or capture and release far away if you are so concerned.

How can you stay in a place with Rat shit everywhere?

I know that when we closed the cottage for the winter sometimes they would get in. (mice not rats) When we would go to open it there was mice shit on the counters, in the toaster, in the coffee maker....everywhere. It grossed me out especially in the kitchen. It was pretty hard finding where they were coming in too. Those things can get into the smallest of holes.

I wish I hat a cat...my dog is scared to death of rats/mice for some odd reason. She will just bark at small rodents and run away from them if they come near her....and then bark even more at them.

I have two pet mice. Yet I'd still freak out if there were random ones in my home. Weird.

What kind of dog do you have. My dog can sniff out a mouse instantly. I think my dog would kill it for sure.

The closest thing we had to a rat was a Guinea pig. My youngest one used to call him Guinea Fat Pig lol

I have two dogs, a shih poo (shitzu-toy poodle mix), who is the one afraid of rats, and a German Shepherd (my avatar).

i would have to disagree there, my friend had a pet rat and whenever she went to the cage to feed it, it would bite her hand, and it was bite the kids aswell, so her husband killed it!

i would never step on a beetle, i would never really kill innocent animals, (my daughters goldfish was the only animal i killed) but rats are rodents and they smell.

i worked alongside rats. When there are thousands of them or they run along a pipe right next to your shoulder you would see how fast you kill one. They can get very brave in numbers too so...

    1, they bite
    2, they smell
3, they spread disease (or can do)
    4, rat shit is dangerous
    5,

Disease spread by rats is likely to become an increasing problem as the developing world becomes ever more urbanised, experts have warned.
Every day nearly four million rats are born world-wise - ten for every human.

They are known to carry nearly 70 diseases, but it is suspected actually harbour a lot more.

Rats are a reservoir of disease, the sleeping giants of disease in the world.

    Dr Lyn Hinds

A meeting of experts in Canberra, Australia, heard on Monday that the rodents pose a growing threat to public health.

Dr Lyn Hinds, of Australia's Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, told the conference: "Rats are a reservoir of disease, the sleeping giants of disease in the world.

"It is more likely than ever that we will have greater levels of debilitating diseases caused by rats with the increased density of human populations."

Among the diseases that rats are known to carry are cholera, typhus, bubonic plague and leptospirosis, a bacterial illness spread by their urine contaminating water or food.

Dr Hinds said 6,000 cases of leptospirosis were diagnosed in Thailand alone in 2000, killing 350 people.

However, researchers say many more deaths should have been attributed to rats but were classified as unknown fever.

The same disease killed nearly 60 people in the Indian state of Kerala last summer.
