Its always confused me how the worlds most popular sport is embraced in almost every other country apart from the US. Is there a reason for this?

Because we have baseball and football (oh. American football, that is.) Watchers of team sports watch baseball or football. Or basketball. And watchers of individual sports watch tennis and golf. Soccer has no place in professional sports here in America. But a lot of American kids play soccer is AYSO, etc.

Soccer is a growing sport in America. Why it wasn't introduced earlier to Americans is beyond me. Within another 10 years I'd say soccer will be more popular I think.

If you ever have the opportunity to attend a game at a venue like Neyland Stadium or a night game in Baton Rouge, you will understand why soccer can't compete with the passion and the pageantry of college football, or even pro football for that matter. There's nothing else like it in the world.

I went for a college football thingy. It just looks like a lot of overgrown bullies falling all over each other. Football is much more sophisticated. Baseball is a little bit better, but pales in comparison to cricket.

Cricket is, oh, so British empire. Refined (boring), complicated (rationalizations) and something you can have tea and watch now that watching battles or slaves constructing bridges would be considered a bit crass. The only good thing about cricket is that some of the old slave states beat their ex-masters at it on occasion.

The reason is simple. It is what you are used to. It is what you as a kid, your parents, your company sponsors are used to. If you hate spinach, it is hard to force feed.

In America, Parents and teachers support at the elementary school level what sports are available. It is a chicken and egg situation....

I was in an Indian restaurant in Washington DC, the otherday. They had a soccer game going in the large TV. Only Indians, a few Mexicans left there watching...and about 3 white females with wide eyes....(that did include one blonde!)

Umm which century do you reside in? Cricket is a game of patience and technique. Its not the score, its how you play the game.

Sure, but thats only important in one day internationals. Which was invented for modern kids with short attention spans. Its not what cricket lovers focus on though.

Baseball and American football both originated in England. Actually, the only popular sport invented in America is basketball.

I think very few Americans watch domestic soccer matchups, but most people watch at least some of the World Cup. I'm not a soccer fan, but I watched the last World Cup.

Hmm ok, but then your statement seems to hold for virtually any sport.
    It certainly holds for soccer.
