Rumor has it, She's not returning at all to the Gates, other than a few token appearances. (As Samantha Carter), The Actor Amanda Tapping, will focus more on the new series Sanctuary. Although, It's hard not to think of her as Colonel Carter... Shame, she handled herself well, throughout 10 years of SG 1 and 1 year in Stargate Atlantis.. So, Where to now ? And whose going to command the Atlantis expedition ?.
So... how long until Wolsley gets replaced as leader of Atlantis? It's getting a bit silly now tbh...
Actually, I think that all this "shifting" reflects the reality of how things are really done in the military. It's common practice to shift commanders of highly sensitive and important areas around as much as possible. For starters it spreads out the experience, allowing people to be replaced easier in emergency situations. Just as important, the government has a vested interest in keeping commanders from thinking that they "own" a specific command. While it may make for good drama, having Captain Picard in charge of the Federation's flagship for more than two years is not realistic. Neither is having Weir, Carter or Wolsley in charge of Earth's capstone space project for more than a year or two really all that believable. ~String
Very good point String! And very true, Officers definitely move around a lot for all the reasons you said. But Wolsley is just going to be a joke... I can't believe they actually did it... My guess, he's going to screw up and someone else is going to have take over in the emergency situation. Predictable.
I was pretty surprised to see Carter get the boot so quickly. As far as the new guy, give him a chance. I just keep waiting for him to say, "Please state the nature of the medical emergency".
It may be more realistic, but I'd argue that it doesn't make for good TV. They should give him that line just once, maybe in their 200th episode, if it makes it that far.
Yeah, it shouldn't be hard to work that phrase in. They could have done it in this last episode. They were dealing with a medical type problem.
Yeah, but I'm sure he has some sense of pride. I'd patently refuse to utter those words if I were him. ~String
I've watched Sanctuary, She is a good actor although her accent was a bit false in the first 2 episodes.
I think the schtick with Woolsey will be to watch as he abandons the "rules" in favor of going with his "gut," rather than putting him there only to fail. It's a similar thing to what they did with McKay--you take a character originally written to be somewhat unlikeable and then you redeem him. If they are going to bend to military reality, I hope they start by making Shepard cut his hair. Or at least comb it.
I agree. In the end, he'll probably be fired by the IOC for breaking too many rules. Then how about something from the Wonder years? Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!

Well, Carter's a scientist, not an administrator. She's also too young for that desk. Wolsey might be too much of an administrator but he seems to have picked up a few clues over the years. He might be a character whose personal development has lead him to the right place and there simply might be no one on Earth who can do that job better. I am glad that the platform seems to be flexible enough to allow for different styles of leadership.
Wolsey still there, and there have been some cute moments with him getting lost around the base. But, no critical leadership type moments.
