Yes it is an illusion, a good one too.

Here is a really good one, the idea is to look at the cross in the middle and observe what happens in the ring.

If you look long enough the effect get much more bizarre. The closer to the image you are, the easier it works.

Did you get the second bizarre effect where all the pink dots disappear and only the green one remains?

There is nothing odd with the image. It spins clockwise for sometimes, and then
anticlockwise for short time, and then go back to spin clockwise. If you watch
until it spins clockwise at least 21, 23, or 27 times, it will changes direction. It
looks like it spins clockwise, because the clockwise spinning is longer than the
anti clockwise. I suppose I can count the pattern.

    hold on

Yeah but I was referring to that when I was talking about LSD... the purple ones did not completely disappear they trailed the green one by like 2 or 3... it was really cool.

Ok, apparently the pattern is quite long. Started spinning clockwise:

    30/9 -- 12/4 -- 50/3 -- 8/5 -- 8/16 -- 14/5 -- 5/9 -- 9/6
    21/2 -- 7/11 -- 15/8 -- 26/2 -- 5/12 -- 45/3

    (30/9 means 30 clockwise, 9 anti-clockwise):

    go back to the 30

perhaps I made a mistake on the pattern in the middle, but after some times
it go back to 30/9 and 12/4.

The first effect is that a green dot appears where ever there is no pink one.
The second effect is that all the pink dots disappear and you are left with only the green phantom dot, it is quite tough to concentrate enough to get the pink dots to completely disappear for me.

No it is just an illusion, because it a silhouette there is no depth so our brain makes it up, and based on that decides which way it is spinning.

It does not spin one way for so long and then another for so long as it is only made to spin by the brain. There is nothing actually there to suggest it has depth. No stereo vision, no 1 sided differences, no shadows.

There is no pattern. The image does not spin.

Are you claiming it isn't an illusion at alll ?

For me the green dot is always there..

When I concentrate on the cross in the center the green dot just, apparently randomly, erases one pink dot after another until there are none left..
Happens every time within 2-3 seconds (from all dots to zero dots).

What if you start counting (and writing) how many times it spins clockwise,
and then anti-clockwise, then go back to clockwise, and then compare the
    number with mine

I think it's an animated picture which consist of long pattern. After sometimes,
of course it goes back to count from first.

Don't forget, for some people it looks like just spin clockwise, because clockwise
direction take longer then the anti-clockwise (see the pattern above, in some
cases, it spins 50 times clockwise).

p.s.: I do not know which pattern is the start. I suppose we have to refresh the
pic first, and then start counting.

As soon as I look at it the green dot appears in the space between the pink dots, then the pink dots slowly start to disappear leaving only the cycling green dot.

Try following the gap with your eyes or taking a screen shot and you will se the green dot isn't actually there.

I can make it go clockwise or anticlockwise whenever I want, just by simply wanting it to go the other way. Subconsciously your brain is doing the same.

    The exercise would be futile.

First time I started counting it rotated clockwise 59+ times before it "reversed".

    Also what Steve says above..

Really? let me refresh the pic and restart counting.

p.s.: could you do the same, and report after about 10 series of number?
    Then we can compare.

p.p.s:I add an edit to my previous post above.

The image is 34 frames long, and consists of only 1 "rotation".

    I quote myself...

Between the pink dots ? To me it's on the pink dots..

I'm red/green colorblind though, maybe that explains the difference.
I hadn't noticed any of the colors, pink or green. I just see a dot moving over the , to me, purple dots. I really have to concentrate to see it's actually green. The purple of the dots in the ring I see perfectly but I just didn't notice color..
