i have been playing an old psx game called warzone 2100 and what really strikes home is the plausability of some of the technologies in the game in particular the synaptic link technology a device fitted to the spine via a vertabrae replacement fitted with a high speed data transfer port to allow interface between any machine which allows the development of huge armoured power-suits that can be controlled by infantry as easily as their own bodies allowing infantry to function properly on the battlefields of the 21st century very clever and if created could also in theory be used to connect peoples thoughts by translating thoughts into digital signals and back again at the recipients end or even to replace completly the bodies of paralyzed people or those who lost their bodies in accidents

When a person is born with an extra limb of any sort, it's very very rare that he can move it. Not because the nerve tissue doesn't support transfer, rather because the brain doesn't know how to recognize it's there. Convincing the brain that parts of the body belong to it would be a difficult task.

    actually you are not right.

just a few links to make my point:

    http://infosthetics.com/archives/2005/10/feelspace_tactile_compass_visualization.html

Im sorry, I cant find the original articles at the moment, but the point was that after some time brain got used to new input and test subjects could actually sense with their new senses, in case of that seeing with tounge, they could see the image in their head.

this thing actually reads your nerve impulses and moves before you muscles do.
