Well, this time James banned me for asking hypothetically if I should have called someone a particular dirty name, so he's not likely to get on my good side any time soon.

This business of him calling OilIsMastery a liar is more important, though. Obviously James mistakes his ability to get away with being rude to someone for some sort of validation of his POV. He's not impressing anyone and he's making it hard for anyone to want to contribute. I know that I don't.

James's rabid animal rights activism is another strong concern.

James conducted a campaign of personal attacks against OilIsMastery then banned him in retaliation for this thread, in fact.

MetaKron is obviously Oil's sock puppet. Don't bother trying to reason with it.

Not any worse than most of the other users here. I didn't know that being a dumbass was a bannable offence, either.

He's given up his credibility by being a liar and a moron. He, like some other folks, is intentionally slippery, and has displayed both intellectual dishonesty and cowardice. Even if he was 100% in the right, why should anyone support him now?

And let's be honest: You're dealing with an administrator. If you're that bent about this place, go away. You're not going to win against an admin. A mod, maybe. Not an admin.

come on metakron, even you must admit the "expanding earth" theory (for lack of a better word) is a load of nonsense.

It's not the same thing as lying, and James has called him a liar for information that he presented with decent references from a more or less reputable journal. I don't think that OIM is slippery, he just got pissed off at being treated the way that they treated Reiku. Then more respectable people such as yourself sort of went along, as I'm seeing here. The psychology of this can be fascinating, but I know that you're a better person than that, Leopold.

Admin or not, James can show more decorum and attract respect instead of trying to beat it out of people.

And no, I don't know that expanding Earth theory is a load of nonsense. Scientists bite and scratch and fight each other over all sorts of things to the point that if anything is truly established even within a particular camp, it will take a lot of research to find that out. Half of them don't actually defend Einstein's theories, they defend some pretty bad misunderstandings of his theories and of quantum theory. A good number of them use partially baked theories as if they are God's word and they use them as sticks to hit people with. This forum seems to be a place for "real" scientists to show their grubby bare asses to people, as if they intentionally desire to destroy the credibility of all science.

appealing to authority. just because a journal is reputable doesn't make its data valid. this is probably why every single high school student doesn't differentiate between abiogenesis and evolution.
science knows the difference but our students do not. interesting, yes?
OIM would still be here if he hadn't went on a campaign of posting this stuff all over the board. the way i understand it is that he was using flawed logic for his arguments.
i appreciate that but actually i don't like being wrong.
in that respect it seemed that OIM just didn't give a rats ass about how he was being perceived.
what was james to do? let OIM run roughshod over the entire forum?
that's exactly what OIM was doing.
yes indeed, rocks expand all the time don't they?
the only possible way for the earth to "expand" is through accretion.
did OIM wait for that research? no. he snatched up a hypothesis and ran wild with it. he was probably thinking he was going to catch everyone with their pants down.
the pioneer and voyager probes have discovered anomalies that can't be explained by conventional physics, so in that respect OIM could be right, but for him to spam the board with his findings is a little over the top.

Leopold, the moderators here bait people and so do some of those who are not moderators. That's what made OIM angry and why he behaved the way that he did. You simply don't expect the moderators of a reputable board to act like that, but then again the behavior of scientists at work in real life comes as a surprise to those who observe it. It's incredibly painful. This isn't about authority, it's about the abuse of authority by childish people.

OIM was very intelligent. He brought up subjects that many would never even know to research.

    MetaKron:

You're not off to a good start on your return from your latest ban.

It seems to me that instead of considering your behaviour, you have just taken up right where you left off.

It doesn't bode well for your future here.

    I doubt it.

I called OIM a liar when he was a liar. And I was not the only one. When he was banned, there was a chorus of people saying what a good thing it was, due to OIM's dishonesty.

Besides, I'm hardly Robinson Crusoe here. OIM proudly lists on his blog about 8 internet forums he has been banned from, at last count. No doubt you think it's a big conspiracy to "suppress" his greatness.

Then don't! Off you go! Nobody is forcing you to come here.

I've said it before, MetaKron, and I'll say it again: you're a total nut.

The last time I posted anything on animal rights was probably in my last discussion with you on that topic, before I worked out that trying to have any kind of rational debate with you is a complete waste of time. Just because you're obsessed with something doesn't mean I'm obsessed with it. You live in some kind of parallel universe all of your own.

Nonsense. Readers are advised to consult the ban list for why OIM was really banned.

Well, chalk up one more crackpot theory that you believe in, along with believing that AIDS and HIV are unrelated, believing that the RSPCA is an anti-humanist organisation out to kill people, believing that 9/11 is a government conspiracy, etc. etc.

Basically, you'll believe anything that you perceive as anti-establishment, regardless of evidence.

You're anti-science as well. No surprises there.

OIM was given a "fair shake". He spent months here promoting his crazy ideas, none of which stood up to any kind of close scrutiny. He could have stayed longer if he had not fallen into a pattern of lying and seeking to mislead others.

    Did he tell you that?

I don't think OIM was angry. sciforums was just one of 20 forums he regularly spams with his nonsense. All he wanted was attention. He wasn't angry - he was happy at being a centre of attention. In real life I'm sure nobody pays attention to him.

I guess those other 8 forums that also banned OIM were part of the conspiracy. Soon, together we will control the whole internet! Bwahahahaha!

OIM's only real skill was cut-and-paste. Most of his thoughts were just parroting of his idol - some Greek maverick geologist.

To me, OIM's ignorance was most obvious in his posts on physics. He didn't know the basics of planetary dynamics, or even Newton's laws of motion. He obviously had never taken even an introductory course in physics.

I don't think he really understood geology either.

James, it is a conspiracy and you are paid to be part of it, either in money or emotional satisfaction. The games that you play and the tricks that you pull are obvious to everyone. I'm sorry that you are you.

The simple fact is that you refuse to allow for any length of time rational discussion on certain topics. Those topics relate to a conspiracy, all right.

And I know, the games that you play let you claim that I'm being paranoid. They also prove that what I say is a product of rational thought, because there is no other reason for you to play such games.
