This guy was hardcore... Jack Churchill, an officer in the British Army, fought all of World War II with a bow and arrows and a broadsword. He was known to play the bagpipes in the midst of battles, and once he captured 42 German soldiers single-handed. Escaped from 2 Nazi prison camps, walked 150 miles to an American outpost... "Any officer who goes into action without his sword is improperly dressed." :roflmao:
He also fought in Palestine for Britain as a paratrooper at age 40...and retired to Australia as a surfer.
In later years, Churchill served as an instructor at the land-air warfare school in Australia, where he became a passionate devotee of the surfboard. Back in England, he was the first man to ride the River Severn’s five-foot tidal bore and designed his own board. He finally retired from the army in 1959, with two awards of the Distinguished Service Order, and died in Surrey in 1996. Eccentric until the end, Churchill would toss his briefcase out of the window of the commuter train he rode home every day. Passengers and conductors were shocked because they did not know he was throwing the luggage into his own backyard as the train passed by. It saved him the trouble of carrying it all the way home from the station. WIKI
Throwing ones briefcase out a window while a train is moving at high speed isn't a very normal thing to do. How much could the briefcase weigh and how far did he have to walk? That's not a genius, that's illogical.
Good questions, the train may not have been going quickly, or it may have been a long walk, but even so if you're going right past your yard why not throw it out the window? Surely that's not particularly illogical? Now if you'd said he climbed out himself then I'd be more inclined to agree. Edit: I'd quite like to see an accuracy rating for it.Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! I wonder if the only reason they know about it is because he had to knock on the neighbours door one night and say "I'm terribly sorry but I appear to have missed my yard and thrown my briefcase into yours by mistake.... again."
it does seem like itd be hard to throw the briefcase accurately into his own yard; he mustve missed at least a couple of times. Really, though, I dont see how its illogical, it saved him the trouble of carrying it home from the station...
I don't see what's so hard about tossing a briefcase out of a train into your backyard. All depends how close or far it was. Since he was chuckin it, probably close. Outta see what some newspaper delivery people can do speeding down the street with amazing accuracy. Anyways, sounds like an interesting guy. I'll have to read up more on him. - N
Personally, I think it's brilliant--as long as he doesn't smash someone's head in with the suitcase, break a window, demolish a fence or dump his stuff in someone else's back yard in error. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
