To be sure, many of his songs ("Disposible Teens" and "Lamb of God" spring to mind) reek of teen angst, however, I feel that Manson is more than just another bratty rebellious Christian-turned-Satanist. The ability to shock is an easy skill to come by - simply challenge the norms and they'll react. However, Manson goes beyond being a simple "shock rocker" in his ability to make valid criticisms. The fine technical merit of his work, and his seeming passion for what he does, as well as his extrordinarily lovely sense of humour, also counts in his favor. I enjoy his music, and I think criticizing him as just another fad is unfair.
Totally agree with what you have said As I have said many times before, he is a lyrical genius. A very talented person indeed. I don't think that he is trying to create rebellious teens out of everyone. I think he's just telling people that they can be what they want to be no matter how far from the norm it is. Basically, just be you. He's also very anti-government in a few of his songs, but he does make very valid points and his use of metaphors and alternative meanings, brilliant *dons beret*
I think his writing is briliant. But there is one thing I've noticed about him... Before I go on I do like his music, I'm not anti-manson or anything, but I'm not a huge fan either. Just something I was thinking... Manson shows kids the idea of no God. I think this is a good thing. Religion gets kids when they're young, Manson snaps them out of it before it sets in... But the style he uses and way he presents it, he almost replaces their God. And suddenly you have people that idolize Marilyn Manson almost as a God. Almost as though he is preying on children's need of a leader... He takes away their God and gives them the Antichrist Superstar instead... Just a thought. Again, I'm not someone who pickets his concerts or something, lol. I'm listening to Reflecting God right now. But it is something that I see as a possibility, and he is a smart guy, and that is definately a way to make a career...
yeah, manson is pretty awesome. I still say his First cd, Portrait of an American family was the best, and thats probably because he hadn't quite become the huge thing he was at the time of his other Cd releases. he was still just doing his own thing, and i think it shows. people need to get over manson-archetypes in out society. Everytime something comes along that chalenges their thought, practices, beliefs, or norms, they spaz out. most of them won't even look at it intelligently enough to validate his (or her) ideas, let alone listen to the music. I think the guy has potentials if he just can leave the religious trauma behind. It's not cool to be "eeevil", it's just corny. But besides that, he has a very stylish image and the music is pretty good too.
Manson is just really all about Radical Individualism, he essentialy believes that God and other authorite figures should have no bearing upon your life and your choices. Your morality is your morality, you try things and work things out for yourself. And when he calls himself the antichrist one must remeber that his definition of the term is different from others, he feels the antichrist is the one that destroys people's dependence on God and he see himself as that person. Also the Media really is responsible for a lot of his shocking appearence and stories about him (though at least 50% really is him) so many people in such organizations as the AFA will say he kills puppies and is a brainwasher without ever listening to a song, and interview or anything else that has actualy come from him.
I wish it was. But for a lot of people, when it comes to marilyn Manson, it's all about Brian Warner. It has nothing to do with the music he makes, it's all about what he's chosen to do, and how he's chosen to live his life. Nothing to do with the music.
Well, he has a fucking interesting lifestyle. Nobody says Anne Rice is famous only because she lives in a converted New Orleans church. His music and his life are part of a package deal. But his music, even if Warner was a 44 year old insurence executive, is fucking good. Cactus: Manson's term "antichrist" is on the same level as Nietzsche's - an antichrist, according to the Bible, is anyone who denies Jesus was Christ.
