So how do YOU feel about, youngwriter? Illegal? disgusting? fascist? Morally right? necessary?

I know I don't like any of the moves the government has been making to take away any of our liberties in the name of "safety". They're so full of it...it's in the name of "Big Brother" in my opinion.

I do however have a question:

To anyone with legal experties. what are the rights of a foreign student on a visa and an expired visa vs. a regular student who is a citizen?

I'm not sure about the above question. I do think the checks are warranted, to an extent anyway. When i go to study abroad i would expect a pretty thorough check, myself. But nothing TOO whats the word...um..nothing too hostile i guess. They shouldn't just target Arabs or people from certain nations (DPR of Korea, Russia, China, Iraq, Afghanistan..etc). They should check all students from foreign nations.

It is just added inconvenience. Foreign students shouldn't worry about it if they have nothing to hide.

    "nothing to hide"

a rationale used by big brother for all kinds of intrusive actions on private citizens

Thankyou, spookz. It's that belief Joeman that will INVITE Big Brother right into our lives. And I don't think ANY of us wants that. Except, of course, George W., Dick Cheney, John Ashcroft and Donald Rumsfeld.

Hell, they siezed on the opportunities provided by 9/11 so fast it made my head spin, and they've ALREADY gone a long way toward making Big Brother a reality in the United States. And too many people seem to like the idea, because they think it will make them SAFE.

This just in, people. You will NEVER be safe. Anything can happen, anytime, anywhere. Freedom is the safest choice.

Anyone willing to give up all freedom in order to obtain security deserves neither freedom nor security.

Who says anything about giving up ALL freedom? You guys are talking like it is end of democracy. Get a grip. I have lived in a police state before. None of you have. US is not even going to come close to becomming a police state. There are things I value more than freedom, that is human lives. I don't want to see nuclear explosion anywhere on US territory. In fact I don't want to see any terrorism anywhere in US. It disrupts US economy which all of you take for granted.

South Korea - big time police state and still is.

Taiwan - it was a police state when I was there.

Let us see what Joeman has wrote in other thread.

The only thing US needs to be is to carpet bomb Iraq back to the stone age.

Now, Joemann doesn't care if nuke explodes any where else in the world. If human lives lost all over the world HE doesn't care. That is just shows what kind of moral and ethics he has. Interesting isn't it?

When you lived in South Korea or Taiwan and if you ever lived there u were not consider due to ur colour and religion as the enemy of the state. So your claim hold no position that you have lived in police state.

Moral and ethics don't mean as much to me as practicality. It is true that I care more about my own citizens than citizens of other countries. That is the same as everyone else everywhere in the world. That is the reality people must fully accept.

huh? Write in proper english first, and then we can talk.

    police states

    according Merriam-Webster:

    Main Entry: police state
    Function: noun
    Date: 1865
: a political unit characterized by repressive governmental control of political, economic, and social life usually by an arbitrary exercise of power by police and especially secret police in place of regular operation of administrative and judicial organs of the government according to publicly known legal procedures

and Joeman, I lived in South Korea last year. I'm currently in Taiwan. and you are wrong. they are not police states.

in Seoul, I did see Riot Police running around, but they let all the demonstrations go on, and there were a lot of them. mostly against the US and its corporate hegemony. traffic would be blocked for miles. they did nothing. would you mind telling me why you think these two countries are police states?

furthermore... when the government takes away rights of privacy for whatever reason, it will use the information it gets to suppress anyone it wants to. especially if they challenge their authority. Ever hear of the CIA and the FBI? or do you think they're all angels? Read some history, particularly concerning the McCarthy Era. Then read the Crucible.

you might change your mind about these " necessary inconveniences".

what about immigrants who have become US citizens? would u still care about them just cuz they're american while they're ethnically different? and what about the relatives of those citizens? u wouldn't care about them just cuz they aren't so called AMERICAN yet ethnically similar? what kinda rationale is that?
