Has the web changed something about you ?
Has the web created areas of interest that you never had before ?
Have you seen things on the web that have changed you, and the way you think ?
Have you changed your lifestyle because of it ?
Do you have fetishes that the web brought to life ?
    etc etc.

Sciforums has done of all those things for me. I started out close-minded and ignorant from my religious upbringings, to having all my questions answered by this community. I still come here when I need good insight on things. I wish I found this place sooner.

The web actually helped me focus on what I wanted to do for the rest of my life and really helped me decide on radiology. Otherwise I think I'd have ended up either working a crappy office job or doing something related to women's health.

Has it expanded your interest in other areas. Maybe farther than you would have expected it too.

In other words, did it allow thoughts or feelings to take place that without it you would have never contemplated ?

I shouldn't say that on medicine. My ex encouraged me into that. Deciding on radiology/radiography was the 'net.

It definitely has expanded my artistic world. I grew up in the middle of nowhere. I never went to a lot of art museums or anything as a child, but now I love Bosch, Scott G. Brooks, Misha Gordin. I've had a chance to correspond with these guys because of the internet. It's made me a more well-rounded person. I can certainly say I'm more cultured as a result than my peers who grew up in urban settings because I was hungry for it.

I'm an intellectually curious person, and that's been fed by the internet. It's done everything from make me change my international political views to more liberal ones to get me to reading foreign newspapers to keeping my chess score up. It's been an amazingly positive experience for me.

Web allowed to increase my knowledgebase a thousand fold and still going. That allows me to make good decisions on health, solving problems for my clients (money) and the knowledge brings peace.

I don't think that was my first post, either. Unless the forum was pruned. I wonder if this board has the ability to block posts from public view... how embarrassing.

Don't put it on the internet, period. You never know who is Googling your username. Which reminds me, I should change mine now. It's like five years old.

    Takandjive,

Awesome. Curiosity and the internet are a match made in heaven.

    Chris,

Ok. Stop trying to take control of the conversation.

The internet has allowed me to write, to be read and to read other's opinions. Before the internet I could never engage in the kinds of conversations I always wanted to, but being from a closed minded town found no one to exchange ideas with. I was shocked at how people seem to be much more aggressive over the internet. I don't think these people really engage in conversations as ill mannered as they sometimes come across on the internet. I think some people feel it isn't a real person they're talking to but a randomly generated computer reply programme. or if they do they must be quite acidic in real life. i take what people say to heart too much I suppose. I'd never really seen much porn before the internet either, so finding that was a little bonus, although I don't watch it these days. I think I've seen about all there is and it was a novelty that wore off quite quickly. I've been changed in many ways by people I encounter on the internet, I've been introduced to new music and films. I discovered a penchant for Japanese cinema and blues. I think my ideas about the world have been expanded and really value when I meet the odd person who I identify with and read their views. This place has some terrific minds here and I've learnt a lot, although information about science is somewhat withheld in a kind of "If you're too stupid to understand I'm not going to explain it to you" way. I am an addict, I have been for the last seven or eight years and before that I was an addict in some other capacity, but I think the internet can be a better addiction than some things. I'm not really sure if I'm a fetishist though, and so I'm not sure if the internet has brought about any. but it certainly supplied me with a wide range of porn that pushed the envelope more and more. I've never found anything of spiritual meaning on here though. Religious debate always ends up being futile since it's never a debate it's always someone pushing their opinions on each other. I like being able to form relationships and I like to observe people and that's what I enjoy most. Other than that I'm not really sure what kind of fetishes there are. How about you, has it changed you jp?

    EmmZ,

It has in many ways. I have an addictive personality as such I tend to go crazy over something when I come across it.

So when I find interesting subjects I would dig and dig and the web allows for an almost endless amount no matter the subject.

In areas that I would frankly be too embarassed to research in the public realm to information gathering that helped me solve issues that I could not without it.

I think the bad is that we don't connect in person. But, where else could you see such open dialog as found in this forum, in a public place.

I think for me, the fetish question is like the porn question. You know you have one the moment you see it.

Youtube and google are amazing devices for everyone, both those who want to look, listen and read and those who want to present their finds, skills and works.

I would say the biggest impact it has had on me is that I have learned more about myself and what lies deep inside than I had ever imagined it would. If you told me to start typing into the google machine and that it would tell me my thoughts I would have said your crazy. But it has, it's like a truth telling machine. The only way to beat the lie detector in this case is to make it uninteresting.
