An honest talk about Marijuana

When we talk about cannabis users it's always compared to alcoholics. Yes, there are those who will overuse the drug and develop a number of unwanted effect, psychosis being one of them. But there are those who use cannabis in much the same way as others use alcohol responsibly. Not everyone who smokes cannabis smokes it all day every day. I have no idea about the statistical analysis around the benefits of cannabis but used, not abused, cannabis can have some positive effects on the mind. Treatment of various illnesses is well known and cannot be dismissed outright with a huge yardbrush and just swept under the carpet under the label of "Bad drug because it's illegal". There are also plenty of legal drugs if used prolifically cause immense psychological damage.

The drug is just far too useful to dismiss outright. If it can be used to treat illness and also be used recreationally in moderation then we have to at least consider the benefits. It's fair to say for some people cannabis is not the right drug to use, in much the same way I can't use codeine to treat pain, it's just unsuitable. Cannabis is either demonised or worshipped and really it's just a tool.

While it remains unregulated and criminalised it is far more likely to be abused by those who seek the thrill of an illegal high, if the drug were controlled then perhaps there would be less teenage lads smoking it on the back of the bus and feeding it to their Staffordshire Bull Terriers.

That being said, there are those people who feel it's best kept illegal so they don't have to get the drug they feel does really help with their conditions from the doctor. I tend to think if the doctor sees your medical history and thinks the drug is not suitable for you then they would be in a better position to judge. We can't often self medicate very well and tend towards overdoing everything we get our hands on.

marijuana needs to be decriminalized, which it has been in many areas, but not outright legalized.

It truly is, and if people did some research and saw how the laws were actually introduced (racism, hatred, and false propaganda with no supporting evidence), we would realize how this War on Drugs is just a castle made of sand. Castles made of sand fall in the sea eventually.

I agree. It is inevitable because the benefits to our economy far outweigh the costs of keeping people locked up for marijuana offenses. It will probably be money-driven as you stated.

We are not being ignored anymore; there is a ton of medical research supporting the beneficial effects of this plant. This legalization movement is in the stage of being denied and fought against. Slowly but surely, more and more bills will be passed state-by-state, and eventually the federal government will have no choice. It is what the people want, and we are not just going to stand aside and let this useless War on Drugs linger on. It is counter-productive, destructive, and costly. A good idea that simply does not work, proven over the course of 60 years of black-market drug trade and gang violence.
