All of this outrage at humanity is misplaced. No species gives a shit about other spedies. Cosnider the wasp that implants its young inside the living bodies of other insects and said young then eat their hosts alive from the inside out. Or the female spiders that eat their mates, sometimes during the act of copulation! Nature is cruel. The only law in nature is survival of the fittist. We can choose to be just as cruel, or we can choose not to be. But we really can't be any worse than nature.
Uum...necessary?? Unless you have a disorder which means you NEED to eat meat for your health, it's not necessary. Even if it were necessary, it's perfectly feasible to treat the animals well and give them a quick painless death. Those lions need to kill to survive. We do not.
Lions kill because the animals they eat are more efficient at processing and storing energy from their own food sources than the lions are. Cows are better at gaining energy and storing nutrients from grass than humans are. So, we eat the cow and take it all from him. We can't eat rocks. We kill plants, too. And, plants get their food from other things that have either died or been killed by other living things. Just because a plant isn't "cute" or playful, that doesn't negate the fact that killing plants is still murder. Maybe a blade of grass does cry every time I mow the yard. Although, it would be funny to see grass cry.
Of course they are. Right here is a video of a man being beheaded in Iraq. His beheading is far worse than anything these chickens were going through.
That's only if you place the value of a human at the infinite level while chickens only have a finite value. But, I totally agree with you. A moral member of the human race is infinitely better than any animal. That's not to say animals are not valuable... they are... and we need them. It's just that I'd rather save a moral stranger than 10,000 dogs. Whatever you want to call "moral" is up for debate, but the general idea is there.
The video has almost nothing to do with people eating meat, chicken or any other kind. If people 1) ate more chicken at 2) slightly higher prices, or 3) fed their pets differently, it might pay to raise the male chicks instead of feeding them alive into grinders. If it were illegal to feed baby chickens into industrial grinders alive, 1,2, or 3 above might suddenly become "cost-effective", due to lack of competition from the grinder setups. Regulations regarding animal treatment just reflect the values and set the context - refusing to allow the feeding of live animals into industrial grinders will not make vegetarians of us all, or even raise the price of chicken all that much.
Exactly, we have a CHOICE. A wild animal must kill to live, any way it can to survive. We (at least us on this forum) have a choice not to subject animals to torture and death as shown in the video.
Because he is killed in a much more brutal way. If you watched the video, they take a knife and slowly cut through his neck until he is decapitated, whereas the chicks are dropped into a grinder and killed immediately. And FYI, I am not saying that his was more brutal just because he is human. Humans are only animals in the end.
Aside from the laser beak thing (which is claimed to cause pain), I think it was a reasonably humane way to kill baby chickens.
Oh. Maybe not in this particular vid, but I've seen rather indepth documentaries about what's common practice in stockyards, hatcheries, slaughter houses, and dairy farms. Your just seeing the end of it all here. For most animals for consumption, I would imagine the end is a great relief.
Why do they remove the beaks anyway? They don't remove them on the ones thrown in the grinder do they? They are so cute, it's hard to watch. There is NO WAY I could work there. I am not really surprised by the video though. When my mom first came to Canada she worked at a meat packaging plant and it sounded like a horror movie, the things that were going on there.
It's probably the same way they make those god awful Chicken Hotdogs. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!uke:
Um....what exactly makes ONE human more important than 10,000 dogs? Yeah, decapitation is far, far worse than being sliced up into little pieces while still alive...
So they can't fight and hurt eachother - that would cost them more money than zapping their beaks off.
no wonder ... Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! weapon gives us choices and grants us ability to find freedom through it, not just us but other animals too.
exactly! I mean what it plants have feelings too, than what vegetarians? than what? all murderers and killers.
Soon, we will be able to grow meat cells without the animals, or genetically engineer animals that do not feel pain.
Chickens often live in tiny cages their whole lives in which they cannot move around or do any number of natural movements that feel terrible in their absence. Often their claws grow into the mess of the cage. Chickens are often debeaked. We are talking about boring, painful lives. The beheaded person certainly had a terrible time in that period leading up to their death, but most of those beheaded had, compared to the chickens, a real life.
