I just realized that they are strictly an Old World species. But there is a species in the New World that goes by the same name and also looks pretty much the same. I will answer the questions with the Old World species in mind. I don't think it will make much of a difference. - It's rather dull colored i.e. no bright colors.
The bird in question is dull-colored and not much larger than a golf ball. Both the Old World and the New World know a bird by this name but, although they are similar in appearance, they are different species (even belonging to different families).
