That's what my husband does now. He was ordered to quit before his knee surgery or our insurance wouldn't approve it.

I think insurance companies have a lot to do with these new laws

My father was like that, but he wouldn't smoke them later. How do you people do it? I just can't stand to leave part of it unsmoked. It makes me crazy.

Something you might like is the inhalers. Those come in varying quantities of nicotine, and they don't taste like ass if you put them away for later. They also come in flavors, which is a distinction that regular tobacco products won't have anymore.

but I stopped smoking aug 4th. haha.. 4.5months ago.. and yes, I still fight for the right to smoke in some places

For me, it's not so much the restrictions as this attitude people have, "anything to pressure people into quitting is okay, so I'm justified."

Yeah, if you started kicking cigarette smokers in the nuts every time they reached for a cigarette, a few more of them might quit. It would still be fucking immoral and disrespectful, though.

This is how the law stands in some towns here. I can see other business owners suing since it seems unfair. If there is a coffee shop in a bookstore, can you smoke there?

Muskegon, Mich. (WZZM) - The smoke free policy the Muskegon County Board of Commissioners approved earlier this year, officially takes effect Monday.

The Clean Indoor Air Regulation bans smoking within closed areas at workplaces, but bars, restaurants and tobacco stores are excluded.

The county unanimously voted to adopt the guidelines in August in hopes of protecting employees from the dangers of second hand smoke.

The regulation had already been adopted in 27 other counties and three Michigan cities.

Smoking inside any public business - restaurant, bar etc has been illegal here since 2004. Which I think is fine, silly in some cases such as a pub where practically 90% of the customers and staff are smokers and all of them want to smoke more because they're drinking. But in certain public places I think it is definitely a good thing, such as when you're taking you're three-year old out to a restaurant you don't want them to be having a coughing fit every 10 seconds because they're surrounded by smokers. Even with non-smokers and smokers section it's not quite safe as second hand smoke spreads throughout an environment. There was talk of banning smoking in public streets which was dismissed. Thankfully too, as a smoker I do sometimes feel guilty about smoking around other non-smokers particularly children, but making it illegal for me to smoke on my way into work or outside after a meal it would just be too much.

There is now currently (in New Zealand) talk of banning smoke breaks at work. Aside from being completely ridiculous (any smoker would agree that four hours without a smoke is hard enough, having to go your whole lunch and morning break without one would just be asking for trouble) it is a total violation of the rights any person has. Yes smoking is bad and we all know we shouldn't participate in it but it's our choice just like it's the majority of adults and teenagers of the world's choice to drink themselves stupid every time they get a chance.

why? why should people be allowed to smoke in bars and not their office? What makes bars so very special that they are exempt from the law?

because when smokers drink, they smoke more.. I duno why, they just do.. so PLEASE stop saying is it ok to smoke here, or there? I have said it before, I dont mind the being banned from public eaterys.. I have no problem at all with that! coffee shops are the same! But they also have some places outside for people to sit I am sure, and people can smoke there while drinking their coffee.. and I dont care about smoking breaks, i always thought of it as, if you have done all your work, or a good part of it, and yoiu need a break.. take it!! doesnt matter if its outside for a smoke, or a walk around the office.. but smoking and drinking, just is hand and hand for smokers!

I think designated smoking areas are fine, like a room at the back of a bar or something. It's down to individuals then.

I'd assume that not everyone that goes on their break is a smoker so yes they get breaks at the same time.
What does that have to do with people not being allowed to have a cigarette on their break?

I just didn't understand about smoke breaks being made illegal. I didn't know if smokers took extra breaks to smoke or if they smoked on the breaks they already were legally given.
Here smokers are not allowed to smoke within so many feet of the building. Insurance has made that rule.

Ohh I see. Well what I meant when I said they wouldn't be allowed smoke breaks is that they wouldn't be allowed to have cigarettes on their break. Which is a considerable violation of rights don't you think? It's not as if you're on company time during your break you don't get paid and you get money cut from your pay if you're late back to work. Shouldn't a person do as they like in their own time?

    Alright..
Frankly, I am for a complete and worldwide ban of cigarettes. I still smoke because I just haven't got a spine.
As long as the governments rather enriches themselves on smokers I feel adequate places should be provided where people can smoke in public without bothering other people.
For instance: smoking bars, enclosed smoking parlors, wind and rain shelters outside.
As long as people are not physically bothered (second-hand smoking) by smokers they have no reason to bitch about smokers.

What the governments are now doing is ever so gradually up the price of cigarettes so smokers will keep buying it.
If they really want people to quit smoking they should either ban cigarettes altogether or make them 4 or 5 times more expensive.
But they won't do that because they get a shitload of money out of the tax.
