My brother's computer has this minor re-occurring glitch.

His DVD-R drive shows as a SD card reader by name and icon.
I ask if someone could help me change it back to its actual name & proper icon?

    Thanks

Sounds like an ICON cache bleed over. Some systems have this from time to time. (This is in reference to Windows XP OS's)

A simple fix requires you just to delete the cache file and it will be recreated. You can read about it here

    You should take note that:
    • The File (IconCache.db) is a Hidden file
    • The location is C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Local Settings\Application Data\IconCache.db where [user] is the user you are logged in as.
    • You will likely have to unhide it before you can delete it.
    • Once it's deleted it's suppose to be recreated by the operating system, this however isn't always the case so it's a very good idea to make a backup of the file under a different name or extension prior to removing it.

This can of course all be done with the use of a Command Prompt, you should look at the use of ATTRIB and of course DEL for removing the file. although COPY is always handy to make a duplication of the file under a different name before DELeting.

Hopefully that will fix your problem.

By name too? Are you sure its not just an SD card reader?
