Have you ever considered just packing up what little you have then ditching society to go live in the middle of nowhere like Alaska? What places would you consider trying it at? What would you bring along? Could you see yourself surviving? How would it be? Do people do this just to run away from problems? Is this wrong? Your thoughts?

When I was much younger I did that. But I really didn't have much to leave behind and took most of what I had with me. It was fun for awhile but over a few months I missed friends and family and returned home. So yes, if you have no responsibilities or obligations, then if you are young enough go ahead. It is better to deal with things where you are because the same shit happens wherever you go, just different people and places is all that change.Best to face reality and overcome whatever it is that you have problems with because those problems will always be with you.

Yeah, every goddamn day I live on this goddamn forsaken rock we call Earth.

I would fill my car with the stuff I need, fill up my tank and just drive East until I ran out of my money to spend on gas. Wherever I run out of gas will be the place I stay...even if it's some weird crappy little town...I don't care. Sometimes, anywhere is better then "home".

I'd rather just take a road trip and "ditch society" for a little while, then return to the glory of electricity & hot showers & such after a bit.

I don't think a person can run away from most of their problems, because they are carrying the cause of them around with them inside their skull.

Every morning I dream of doing this.
Mind, ideally, it would be in a post-apocalyptic kind of scenario, that way, there's less annoying people to deal with.

    Multi-choice - why?

I'd go loopy by myself. More loopy.

This is one of the reasons why I bought a neat book recently, "Handbook of Offshore Cruising: the Dream and the Reality". A dream of mine has been to get set up to sail around the world for a few years. I mean, a sailboat serves both as a home and a primary means of transportation, all that can be moved around by wind alone!

Of course I know how to sail, and I know the dangers, so for now it looks like part of the adventure will simply be getting set up for it. But every great adventure has to start with a little prep, right? In the meantime, I'm a road-trip warrior that puts more miles on my car then anyone else I know!

I did it after my divorce. I opened a US map, closed my eyes and poked a spot. I packed up my 2 yr old, all our stuff and moved to where my finger landed. I have lived here for over a decade now.
