... Someone can be 'warned' for posting 'off topic' especially by someone other than a noted (on page) moderator?

I understand the need for the site to keep order in it's sublime forums, but most of us while discussing topics and the side noted they entail get quite far off topic!

I mean... do I need to post examples?

The usual way is to report the post as off topic and submit to the discretion of the moderator.

It helps to make a point now and then; verbosity is excusable if there is an intent to communicate but unpardonable if its just bombastic.

I was going to joke about the thread topic being off topic in the forum, but its hard to gauge the intelligence level here these days.

How could something be off topic in free thoughts? Would not the forum name imply that this is a place for just generally whatever?

Hmm... So then it should be relabeled as "somewhat-free thoughts" then, shouldn't it?

"Free Thoughts" is currently treated as an oxymoron.

It's still has to be a proper topic, not inane random ramblings.
And if it fits in another subforum, it shouldn't go in Free Thoughts.
    So, no, not 'whatever'.

This is still a science forum. Free thoughts has always been very lenient on what it allows. There's been many a thread there that I thought should be cesspooled. Generally speaking, most topics are allowed there, but if it devolves into mindless banter, than its just taking up bandwidth, and is a waste. As long as you have some basis for your "free" thoughts, and it is relevant, it will be allowed. Just don't post mindless shit there.

You guys are such a parody of yourselves sometimes... Some of you act as if sciforums is the entirety of your lives. If so, I say that's sad and I pity you.
Enmos, lock this thread please as apparently no one wants to discuss, just point fingers and ridicule.

Who's the one who is taking it so seriously that they are getting upset about their stupid threads being cesspooled? You must take this place to heart if you get upset about what goes on here. If you're gonna be a whiner, then expect to get ridiculed son, You don't like it here, then go somewhere else.

The moderation on this particular website is not completely standardised. Attempts have been made by some moderators to generate a consensus on how various occurances are handled, however for the most part it's left to the moderator at hand to make the decision.

The overall moderatorship here is made up of volunteers that put their time in to try and aid shaping the site and defining the sites community.

Some moderators will attempt to keep various threads on topic. This is understandible if the topic itself is something the moderator is passionate about and overviewing, when it comes to topics that might not be their cup of tea, they aren't going to want to wade through it too often and when it becomes and extremely large thread, if they don't attempt to try and keep it on topic, it becomes problematic to moderate.

At this point they can either attempt to clean it up, which usually causes the complaints about moderation or censorship, or they can lock it and/or throw it into the cesspool where it's left uncensored but forever closed.

(Of course the throwing of a thread into the cesspool causes complaints too, but they aren't about censorship or a persons "free speech" being undermined.)
